To be wise entails being teachable, which entails submission, which entails humility=the antonym of pride.
“When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2)
“Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12)
"Fools despise wisdom and instruction" (Prov 1:7)
Foolishness is a choice....its called being "willfully ignorant". It leads to (and is lead by) a hard heart....making one unwilling to submit, unwilling to be corrected, unwilling to change, unwilling to receive wisdom.
Wise men are those who have submitted to the attitude of "being ok with being wrong". They have received from the Lord because they have chosen to be teachable. This kind of person understands the flaw within themselves and acts on it. They do what's best for their well being, not their ego and preferences.
“But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:23–24)
Knowledge speaks, Wisdom listens. We should embrace both

It is about spiritual growth but it is deeper than that. It speaks of recieving correction and rebuke and learning from it and gaining understanding from it. a child who recieves correction and rebuke may deflect it but a wise man recieves it as wise council. Even if you are attacked by another believer you can still learn from that attack in how you recieve it or more specifically how you handle it
I’ve read it before many times and what it is saying is that the Bible writers don’t write things according to the wisdom of the world. The Bible writers write things that the natural (unsaved) man can’t understand because they’re writing things in such a way that they can only be discerned spirituality.
Do you agree with that? I hope you do agree because that is exactly what verses 13 and 14 are telling us.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Correct. These words are directed to the world in general. There are at least four teachings presented here, and they are confirmed by other Scriptures.
1. THE WISE MAN IS ONE WHO ACCEPTS DIVINE CORRECTION AND REBUKE
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise...but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
2. THE FOOL DESPISES CORRECTION AND THEREFORE HIS OWN SOUL
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul:...
3. WISDOM BEGINS WITH THE FEAR OF THE LORD
33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom...
4. GOD EXALTS THOSE WHO HUMBLE THEMSELVES BEFORE HIM
....and before honouris humility.

this exists to each us about Christ.
"life" is Christ. John 11:25
"wisdom" is Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:30
"understanding" is knowledge of Christ. Proverbs 9:10
instruction of wisdom is instruction about Christ -- rebuke of foolishness is being conformed to Him.
disdaining conformation to Christ is despising your own soul because it leads to death - He is life
and walking as Him, heeding the Word that speaks Wisdom, is walking in Life - He is life
eternal life is to know the Father, and the Son who is sent. John 17:3
knowledge of God: the Holy One of Israel - this is understanding; to walk in understanding: this is gotten by heeding the rebuke of Life - that which is the fear of the LORD, to hate evil. Proverbs 8:13
to hate evil is the instruction of Wisdom - Who is Christ, which is life.
oh let those who love Him hate evil! Psalm 97:10
be wise, not unwise! Ephesians 5:15
and this is the meat: before honor is humility.
what humbles the one who hates foolishness, but his own foolishness? what humbles the ones who hates evil, more than evil being found within them? what if we have sin? what if we are fools? we need Salvation - to be lifted up by Him who opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6 -- it is Christ who says, when you are invited to dine, take the lowest seat. it is Christ who says, the one who would not dare to lift his eyes, but said have mercy on me, a sinner, is the one who goes home justified. it is Christ who says, repent and believe. Christ who says, a contrite heart is the acceptable sacrifice.
this is about Christ. whether we are wise, and He works in us good things, or whether we find ourselves fools, and He saves us in His grace, it is Christ that is the heart of this, who is what Proverbs 15 is given to us to testify of. if we read this and our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before Him, and if our hearts condemn us, He is greater than our hearts. 1 John 3:21 -- and we must come to Him in contrition, confessing our iniquity - and He will honor our faith in Him after our humility before Him.
The ear that hears the rebukes of life
will abide among the wise.
He who disdains instruction despises his own soul,
but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding.
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,
and before honor is humility.
