Perhaps one day God will call me to travel the world and spread His message, right now though I think He is still bringing me to a point to where He will use me

Hey Standstrong Hope you are well brother. There will be huge amount of areas in the bible that you are studying that will be extreme hard to understand. I know from experience and even got into some heartly debates with other people who really didn't know. It came to my mind not even the most high literate person who knows and understands the bible, will not know everything. God bless you though, its good to see someone wanting to understand, and to go deep in the word that you believe in. Hence the verse where Jesus tells us in: Matthew 7: 7. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Even Jesus knows how the bible can be somewhat difficult to understand. Many people has tried to make there own conclusions, and there own thoughts of there own understanding. But In all honesty? it got them no were.

I found asking other people, may help only in a minute way. But If you really want to have deep understanding, then remind yourself of Matthew 7: 7. And ask God himself. The outcome of your answers and understanding is how much you have faith in the Lord to provide you with the answers. Who better to ask really ay? God bless and I hope you get the answers to your questions.

Im not saying to dismiss asking other people, but there will be days were you will re-hit a brick wall. With God? you will not hit any walls. You will get the understandings, if you listen to God. God bless. I hope you find the answers you looking for.

Standstrong,

When you say that you don't have any doctrine, I'm going to guess that's because of the improper, and often argumentative way, that the word is commonly used.

The word "doctrine" doesn't really mean a lot of complicated theology (though it can get complicated). Doctrine just means the set of "beliefs" you adhere to. The "doctrines" you adhere to are just your "beliefs" about God and scripture.

If you say you are a Christian, then you must, by virtue of that statement, have some "beliefs"... those beliefs constitute the "doctrines" you adhere to.

Do you believe God exists or doesn't exist? Those are doctrinal positions.
Do you believe Jesus was a real historical figure? That is a doctrinal position.
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross to pay for sin? That is a doctrinal position.
Do you believe the scripture is inspired? That is a doctrinal position.

People argue so much, I can understand you, and many others, saying that you don't have positions on every complicated thing, and you therefore don't have any doctrine. But doctrine doesn't mean complicated nit-picky things... doctrine just means your beliefs.

If you look through the books of 1Timothy and 2Timothy, you'll even see Paul admonishing Timothy to study doctrine. It's mentioned over and over. So although Christians often approach doctrine in obnoxious ways just to argue, "doctrine" is actually a good thing.

Our beliefs and understanding of scripture naturally develop, and deepen, as we study.
Sometimes our beliefs and positions even change over time.
It is normal, for every believer, to become a Christian based on a very small but fundamental set of doctrines... the belief in Christ's atonement on the cross, and our own personal need for that atonement to be applied to us.

Then on that foundation (that rudimentary set of doctrines we call the gospel) we then study and build other doctrines. You cannot even avoid building new doctrines on top of the foundation... as you study you will learn new things, and those new things will become the doctrines (the "beliefs") you adhere to. This is a simple and natural progression we start when we become Christians, and it continues until we die. We are all in the same boat.

I'm sorry the word "doctrine" is often used is such strange ways.
I truly hope you will be able to view, and appreciate this word as it is biblically intended.

Sometimes when I don't have a strong opinion on a particular area of doctrine,
I might describe my position like this:
"my doctrinal position on THAT particular area isn't fully formed yet... I'm still studying."
Lots of people say things like that at times; it's perfectly reasonable, biblical, and honest.

I'm sorry the word "doctrine" is often used is such difficult and argumentative ways.
I truly hope you will be able to view, and appreciate this word as it is biblically intended.

God Bless,
Max

Yea that is more what i am saying. I follow the doctrine example of Jesus Christ and the Early Church.

I went through a period when people asked me if i was a christian i told them instead i follow The Way.

Most churches today cherry pick the Word and i don't agree with that philosphy. so for the most part i very rarely take what they say to heart and attend more for the fellowship then the teaching. I would love to find a church that follows strictly to the teachings of the Early Church however most now a days do not. so yea that is why i say that i do not follow church doctrine/theology

As far as 1 and 2 timothy i always viewed it as paul telling him to stay in the Word and that the Word of God as a whole is our doctrine not to be cherry picked (added to or taken away) for it to better fit our situation or life style choices.

John 20:23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Matthew 6:15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

on face value these two verses seem to contradict one another. In my studies i have found that when scriptures appears to contradict then it means that there is a deeper meaning that i am just not seeing.

So in light of that i am asking what is this really saying? On one scripture it says that if you retain the sins of any they will be retained. the next shows the importance of forgiveness saying very plainly that if you do not forgive others the God WILL NOT forgive you? so how can it be both ways?
They aren't contradicting each other. The first verse is saying if someone forgive someone else faults, there is no accuser; but if they doesn't forgive, then there's an accuser. And if the accuser has faults, they will be accuse of their faults also. So if the accuser doesn't want to be accuse for anything, then the accuser should lift the curse of the one that has faults toward them.

John 8:9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Commentary by Roger Christopherson .

John 20:23 "Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."

This is misunderstood by many people. No man can forgive another man's sins, for only God can forgive sin, and then only in Jesus name.

Go back to the prior verse. The Holy Spirit was in them, and it was the Holy Spirit from within that would give the conviction to the other person's spirit. The Spirit of God would move on the other man's spirit, not from the spirit of those Apostles.

This is also applied to those that would offend one of God's elect, and anointed. When one person would offend one of God's Elect with the Spirit of God in them, then he has offended the very Spirit of God also, and as such those actions or words will be held against the offender. Of course upon repentance by that offender "in Jesus' name", it is forgiven him by the Father, and blotted out from the eternal record.

God is very jealous of His sent ones [both His Elect and those of the free will], for they are sent forth to plant the seeds of truth that will convict men of their sins, and turn them to the Living God.( Continued... )

Matthew 6:15 "But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Even though a person is a child of God and calls themselves a Christian, they may be just a babe in Christ, and not versed in the Word. This is why we are required by Christ to forgive them, for in innocence they may have not known their wrong against you. Our Heavenly Father will take your short comings to the same degree that you have taken others wrongs against you. You must do this, or God will not forgive you, which means, God will not answer your prayers.

Matthew 6:16 "Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward."

Now we are talking about fasting, or the giving up food or something in the service to God. Jesus is telling us that when we fast, we should not be like those that call great attention to their fast. They moan, "Oh Lord, how we suffer as Christians for you." The continue with their belly-aching, until they become a pain. What kind of an example are they setting for the non-believer, the run most of the people away. ( Continued... )

If a person goes before a judge for a crime they have done and if the victim forgive them and doesn't want any action done to the violator, then there isn't a case. Sin is when a person cause harm to another, but if the victim feel that no harm has been done, then there is no sin has been committed.
