Being a Prophet one is called to encourage, build up and exhort the Body of Christ. (Eph. 4: 12)

It is also of Jesus. `For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of Prophecy.` (Rev. 19: 10)
Much more basic than that: A Prophets Speak the words THAT GOD GIVES THEM, to THE AUDIENCE GOD SELECTS, at a time determined by Him alone.

It MAY BE "Encouragement", "WARNING", "Exhortation", "Word of Wisdom", "Word of Knowledge", "Foretelling", "Tongues", or "interpretation of Tongues". ANY "Spoken gift" is in the prophetic category.

A genuine "Prophet" Adds nothing to, and subtracts nothing from the utterance that they're given. A Genuine Prophet doesn't personally make up from their own mind what is to be spoken - EVER.
