there are different types of legalism. Some are great. some are minimal and if one does not look might even be missed.

Legalism is the teaching that says that man must earn his salvation by whatever means the person is teaching must be met in order to receive eternal life. The general similarity in all legalistic gospels is this. One can be saved, Be given eternal life. and become a child of God, be given The seal of the spirit. and lose it all. and although at one point they were saved. This saved state is lost and they are doomed to hell if something does not change.

Some churches have many rules and regulation which must be met.

some has maybe one. Don't walk away from God and return to sin.

that would be the one with the most rules and regulations. i did not mean great as in awesome. I meant great as in big, or the most rules.

The word legalism is not in the Bible, but keeping the law as a requirement for salvation instead of out of love for God is legalism.

Galatians 2:16
(16) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
John 14:15
(15) If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Don't touch this, don't do that, you need to do this, go there, that's legalism to me, instead of letting one work out his own salvation in fear and trembling. We are to encourage the brethren daily yes, leaders lead by example, those who are driven are from those who are behind them whipping away
