What is your understanding of the consequences of Adam's sin?

OK..my conviction is that all mankind was represented by Adam and incur the guilt of his decision to reject God in the Fall.

I do not believe that subsequent sin accrues to the individual, but that Adam acted as our federal head, by virtue of physical birth, and his sin accrues to our account.

For those who accept Jesus as their Saviour, their federal head is Jesus, and his righteous acts are credited to their account. Therefore, they are accounted as righteous because their federal head is righteous.

The rest are condemned because their federal head is not Jesus, and they continue to be represented by their father, Adam. They have not experienced the spiritual rebirth, which brings them under the federal headship of Jesus.

This is, in essence, what Romans 5 is teaching.

The believer is represented by Jesus, and the unbeliever is represented by Adam. As a result, the believer is justified, and the unbeliever is condemned.

Praise be to Jesus, as our covenant head, who delivered believers from the curse of Adam's sin !!!!

I suppose you could interpret these scriptures that way;

Romans 5:18-19
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.


The only thing is verse 18 is a generalization. All men born after Adam weren't condemned. But all that were condemned were condemned because of what Adam passed on. Don't forget Enoch and Elijah.

As the free gift didn't come upon all men. But all men that the free gift came upon received it because of the Righteousness of one, Christ.


So the intent of your "federal head" kind of works but its not really accurate. No one has declared Adam to be High priest or King. But no one had to. Because what he passed on all mankind inherited.


I think we come to the same conclusion but just by different means. Your way "works" but just doesn't make perfect sense in my head.

That's true.

No asymmetry the way a Calvinist would teach it.

Because it is the Father that draws His People to Christ and not people who have to try to believe, according to the way a Calvinist would explain it.

Pelagianism has infected the American church through the ministry of Charles Finney, amongst others.

While there are many false gospels, including antinomianism (the other side of the ditch), there remains an effect from Finney's influence.
