I currently have an old KJV study bible, but I wan to buy a newer, nicer one next paycheck. However, I'm not so sure I want to try KJV again.
What do you guys suggest? What do you prefer for a good study bible?

They make Bibles with more than one translation in the Bible. They also do parallels with language if you want to learn another language. I have a Bible that parallels English and Spanish. New King James is pretty good if you don't want something different than the KJV. They have a rainbow Bible that colors different things, don't know that much about it. I was thinking of getting a new Bible myself. I think I would get one with more than one translation on the same page, it could help if you are new to other translations besides the KJV.

Honey stick with the King James....It talk the straightest...
I always test a Bible with 2 Peter 1 :21...
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Some translations leave the word HOLY out... And that is a big mistake.... You see ALL prophets are HOLY MEN!
The differance between a holy man and a man (sinning man) is Jesus Christ Himself... ALL HOLY MEN ARE HOLY BECAUSE THEY ARE BAPTIZED WITH THE SAME HOLY SPIRIT OF JESUS!

My grandma has one that parallels the KJV and the ESV, which she suggested, but I don't think I like the ESV very much, idk why.
But anyway, a parallel does sound like a really good idea. Thanks a bunch.

I understand that's how you feel, but I think that's one of my least concerns. I'm mostly worried about making sure it's something I can understand better and one that doesn't sugar coat everything, you know?

I love the style of language in the KJV, I always consider it head and shoulders above the rest, but it can be quite difficult at times. So I use the ESV also, I like it cause it's a literal word for word translation and if you're witnessing to your average unbeliever, you can quote them scripture in a more contemporary english which is just genuinely more understandable for them. Also the Crossway ESV study bibles are quite good, just to throw that in there :).

A good study bible in either NKJV, NASB or ESV would be your best bets.

Dear Honey12, I recommend the website Bible Gateway they have several English language version Bible and the Stephanus (Stevens) 1550 TR (Textus Receptus), as well as other Greek NT texts.

This is very interesting What the True word of God Says In the KjV says! And if any man shall take away from the word s of the book of this prophecy .God shall take away his part out of the lambs book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

note that these are only WHOLE verses that the NIV deletes. This list does not include the many words and phrases that were completely deleted from the NIV--it deletes over 64,000 words including words like mercyseat, Jehovah, and Godhead. It removes meaningful, well-known Bible words like Calvary, Lucifer, new testament, regeneration, etc. Most of the modern Bibles line up very closely with the NIV--and so does the New World Translation--the Bible of the Jehovah's Witnesses which predates the NIV!

I know all thos thou's and thines and thee's may be a little difficult reading in th KJV but I think seeing as it was the first truly amalgamated version of the Holy bible first printing 1611 that it contains the closest thing to the unadulterated truth that we have a lot is lost in translation between languages even within a language of itself. I know many of my contemporaries may disagree but personally I feel the truth is stronger in it than others as well sometimes when we do not understand the strucure of a sentence we usually read it again and again until we get it this is not a bad thing it helps us understand the real message within the words this is only my opinion nothing more but I hoped it helped you out you can check out several versions online at bibleresources.org and see what suits you best according to your language skills etc.

peace and love

I used to get on there and read when I was in class. Lol
I want a more physical copy though. But it is a good idea for me to play around with different languages to help me decide.

I do agree that the KJV seems the best when it comes to the 'real thing' I guess you could say, and I'm still keeping the one I have now, the new one would be like an added reference you know. Not for individual details but for more of a bigger picture, you know what I mean?
