I think speaking in tongues is the most beautiful gift i have ever heard! every time someone at my church speaks in tongues, it makes me so sad because i want to speak in tongues so bad!!!!!! i tried for about a whole year to speak in tongues, but it never happened. then i realized, "mabie God has a different gift for me, mabie speaking in tongues isnt for me." dont get me rong, I WOULD LOVE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES!!!!!!!! but who knows, God might make you a prophet, i wouldnt mind being able to prophesy, its amazing how god speaks through ppl. but all i know is, i try so hard but nothing happens, so i gave up. i think i should start trying again. :(

In my opinion... a gift is a gift... you cant "try" a gift.

Hi, i think speaking in tongues is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit working in you. but what happens prior to that is far more important - being baptised in the Holy Spirit. It really means you are soaked, empowered, have a Holy Guide within you to help you navigate the will of God in your life. I pray in tongues to sensities my spirit to God's prompting. In Gen 1:26, God said, Let Us make man in our image. And God is Spirit, so we are primarily spirit enclaved in human body.

When I first received the gift it was in a Christian camp. It seemed silly and quite hilarious bec all sort of advise was being given - "blank you mind, dont think ! , just open your mouth and let the words flow, keep praising God with words like Hallelujah, Praise the Lord etc .. I did speak for a few seconds and it was exhilrating bec words were coming out from my mouth but being mouthed a wellspring within me - the Holy Spirit. I lost it immediately after that. Weeks later and many nites of seeking later, I spoke in tongues for 1.5 hours non-stop. It seemed like only minutes. It changed my perspective of life to realise and made it far more peaceful within. To speak in tongues you have to get over your shyness of feeling awkward of speaking in tongues around other people because that would mean you are ashamed of Christ.
When we live for God we speak of God in a good manner preach His word in confidence not caring what anybody says or thinks against us and not being embarrassed or shy when doing it.The only time that we hold our tongue and not preach the word is if it going to cause arguing with someone for God does not want strife between people.

A person cannot speak in tongues unless they are totally clean of all sin.

1.The Bible says when we come to Christ we are to go on to become a perfect man.That means we are to strive to become more Christlike and become perfect in Christ to be right with God.

2.The Bible says that if we can tame the tongue we can be a perfect man.

3.The Bible says that man can tame any part of the body and cause it not to sin excpet the tongue.God said no man can tame the tongue.That is because the tongue will sin more than any other part of the body.A person might not want to physically hurt someone but they might not care about talking about them in a wrongful manner.God said no man can tame the tongue it is full of deadly poison.

4.This becomes a problem for people because they have to become a perfect man and the only way they can become a perfect man is to tame the tongue but no man can tame the tongue.The Bible says if a man can tame his tongue then he can cause the whole body to be in subjection abstaining from sin.The problem is no man can tame the tongue.

5.This is where God steps in and takes charge.The Holy Spirit tames the one part of our body that people cannot tame causing the whole body to be in subjection and become perfectly right before God;therefore becoming a perfect man that we to strive for becoming a perfect man in Christ.

6.The Bible says that sometimes we do not know what to pray for as we should so the Spirit steps in and prays for us and gets the things that we do not know what to pray for answered so we can become more closer to God and get rid of all the garbage in us that hinders us from being spiritually clean.

7.Further proving that God gets the glory for us being saved for we cannot make it without the Spirit making intercession for us.

Getting the idea tongues may be overdone? Maybe they'll just never be an ending in sight?

(Now. Who is going to get upset with me for digging through really old posts? lol)
