There has been a lot of talk about marriage with the recent political events in America. I found an interesting video about what traditional marriage really is, and whether or not it is an evolving thing or whether it is something set in stone. If anyone here is bold enough, I'd love for you to watch this video and give your response.

Traditional marriage is a bogus concept, it holds no weight except for it to be replaced by another form as we saw Friday.
Here is God's marriage...

Genesis 2:22-24 (KJV)
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

The Bible says a lot more about marriage than just those verses.

You clearly didn't watch the video, but thanks for responding at least.

This Forum is Bible Discussion, not Video Viewing.
If you'd like to discuss in your words what was the main points of the video I'd be glad to discuss them otherwise I go by the title.
My point in citing Gen 2 was to show that the definition of marriage is set in stone.

That is the most annoying response. I mean seriously, it's an 8 minute video. If you're too lazy to watch the video, then why post in this thread? But to appease you, I'll try to sum up what that video says.

It's basic premise is that no one follows the Biblical view of marriage anymore, and people are cherry-picking one aspect of Biblical marriage and choosing to set it as an unmovable tenant, even though they have abandoned other views of Biblical marriage. So what is the Biblical view of marriage? you cited the Old Testament, let's look there.

Polygamous relationships were not uncommon as many prominent historical figures had multiple wives at the same time (Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, etc.). In addition, there were traditional marriage rules, such as: rape victims must marry their rapists; if a woman's husband dies, she has to marry the brother's husband, even if he's already married; interracial marriage is prohibited; and if it turns out your wife lied about being a virgin when you married her, you have permission to stone her. These are God's laws in the Torah, not man's laws. Women were viewed as property. This was traditional marriage.

The video goes on from there explaining how marriage kept on getting redefined over the years. These were entire civilizations of people, Christian and non-Christian, who viewed marriage in ways that are incredibly foreign to us. Examples were then given of other more recent changes to marriage laws, including allowing interracial couples to get married, something that people discriminated against well into the 20th century, using the Bible as support.

SUMMATION: If I were to sum up the point of the video, and of this topic, into a nutshell, it would be that the Bible says a lot of things about marriage that no one follows anymore or believes to be appropriate, even though there were entire civilizations who followed some of these rules for thousands of years, some rules only recently falling to the wayside. Yet Christians hold on to this "one man one woman" thing as if it somehow supersedes the other marriage rules that they currently ignore today.

People may change like a baby's diaper but God does not change. Jesus confirmed the Scripture in Genesis.

He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
(Mat 19:4-5)

But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.' 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh.
(Mar 10:6-8)

I don't care about your screwy louie video, that would try to warp men's minds away from God's Word.
Of course man comes up with all kinds of crazy forms of marriage rebelling against God's revealed order. Man is fallen. Go ahead and follow that crowd if that is your bent.
I watched about 4 min and had to puke.

Many things in that video were inaccurate. For instance, he states that according to the bible, if a woman is raped, she is forced to marry her rapist. But the biblical truth is; "But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die. But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin.." (Deuteronomy 22:25-26). Its only when the sex is consensual, that the law required them to marry (Deut 22:28-29).

Marriage has always been defined as being between a man and a woman. But of course, what governments define marriage to be hasn't always been what God sanctioned it to be. Also, the video claims that its biblical for men to beat their wives, but I'm aware of no such scripture? To the contrary "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it" (Ephesians 5:25).

I agree with you Crossnote. Furthermore Christians need to distance themselves from state marriage altogether which it is sin in the eyes of God.A Christian does not need to get permission from the state to marry when God has already given it to them.

God told the Israelite's not to marry outside of their tribes. This was because the nations were Pagans and heathens and God knew the Israelite's would be corrupted. It had nothing to do with Christians or the color of peoples skin.
