Don't you think this depends on the number of survivors. Just an example: If ten men were to survive a slaughter of a town of a thousand people. Don't you think that the ten could survive on the "supplies" for a lot longer than the thousand could have. It would also take a while for the ten men to bury the others. We have seen efforts by the world, in recent years, where large numbers of people go and help others clean up after a catastrophe - Cutting the clean up time drastically. But if a few are left to clean up for a now dead much larger group - then the clean up would take a while.
I know that if my hometown was destroyed and the population was cut by 90%, then we could burn wood for a really, really long time without cutting any trees (of course, a lot of it would be treated lumber used for building houses).
