Why do Christians believe in a place of torment called Hell?

Exactly. The title of the thread should really be "Why did God create Hell for the devil and his angels?" God does not desire that any should "perish" (suffer the torments of Hell) but that all should come to repentance.

I think it would be unloving of God to raise someone from the dead just to wipe them out by burning.

I read somewhere that fire is used for purification. I wonder if that is where our Catholic friends get purgatory.

Humans have spirits too?

If angels are spirits and fire only, how did they mate with women?

Does the Bible say God is powerful enough to destroy body and spirit? Is he not powerful enough to destroy an immortal spirit?

Someone in this thread said that only God is immortal.

Therefore Angels are not immortal.

Why would one ask, Why did God create Hell for the devil and his angels? and not allow us to simply answer their question?
Looks like a set up to me to act like non-christians by them.

Angels left their original habitation and manifested themselves physically maybe in form of demons, monsters or whatever and committed fornication with strange human flesh unlike their own. Jude 1:6-7

God is a consuming fire. Angels are made out of fire. The human spirit is a breath from God. It is not that God is not powerful enough that he cannot speak an immortal spirit out of existence. He created those beings that way which is a part of him who is indestructible. So He will cut them off from Himself forever through the lake of fire.

The bible never speaks of any transformation because it doesn't happen. Angels were created with bodies that look human but are of a different type of flesh.

Wrong.

Jesus said spirits have no flesh and bones. The angels can appear in human or animal form. Search about cherubim, seraphim and archangels. Your annihilation doctrine is now debunked. Satan cannot cease to exist because he is a spirit with no body to become ashes.



But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
