I've skimmed over the threads of this topic, and I'm leery of adding anything else to it because I honestly think it's a waste of time.
So I'll say this. Jesus gave very few direct commands, but of those commands I believe we should devote our whole attention. But no where does he give any inkling, any hint, any innuendo that we should be so passionate about politics or things of this world. And politics and things of government are just that--worldly. Yes, they affect other things, but they have no bearing on eternity.
The greatest command he gave was the Great Commission, to go out and preach the Kingdom. Not democracy, not the glories of America. Paul espounds on this as saying our citizenship is there, in the Kigndom of Christ, not in the worldly countries on earth that are ruled by the devil--whether Obama, Bush, Reagan or the Queen of England is in charge.
So, can we talk about more pressing things? Like Africa? Instead of buying books that spread hate and distract from the real mission at hand--salvation--can we make sure Africans have clean water? Toilets? Can we make sure North Koreans don't have to risk a bullet in the back because they're escaping to the mountains to eat grass?
Let's just focus on Christ. Jesus. Our king. In whom we have our identity and saved us from all sorts of darkness... including factions and politics. He be our king! Not Obama, not Reagan, not Palin.
There is so much more grandeur and majesty in worshiping him than whatever patriotism and politics can engender. Those things divide, worshiping Christ unites us ... and purifies us from all sorts of bad thinking.
So I've said my peace. Seek Christ, not politics.
The end.
