Something to think about; just hearing His voice audibly is no big deal, He spoke aloud to the children of Israel at the mountain when He made His covenant with them, and they were overjoyed, right? No , they were frightened to death and asked Moses to not let God speak to them any more. It is hard to hear God's voice audibly, because the flesh fears death, rightly so, because God is death to the flesh. But we have something greater than Noah or Abraham or Moses or any of the prophets or kings who heard God's voice. We have god in us, living in our hearts, through the Holy spirit. But we are dull of hearing because we rely on so many other things to tell us what God is saying, all good things for sure, but still things never intended to replace the way of communication which we have with Him by the indwelling Holy Spirit. All of the saints before Jesus would have given anything to have what we take so often for granted.
There are ways to learn to listen to the Holy Spirit that are simple and easy, and the best I know of involves reading scripture with the goal of hearing Him speak to us, individually.I have made it a habit to listen during my time of prayer, best at the beginning unlessmthere is something pressing, and then at the end.
