Some people are just not made to be single. Being single is only sorrow in their life. They just don't do well being alone.
Joy, Sorrow, and Choices:

Focusing on our sorrow... and thereby making ourselves even more unhappy... is a choice.

If any of us want to ignore all the scripture about trusting God,
and ignore all the scripture about finding joy in God...
then God will allow us to have our way, and be miserable.

Have a lovely week.

There are many sorrows in life.

Someone once told me they prayed and prayed for wife and could not understand why it never came to pass.

One heartache after another. :(

"Surely it is better to marry than to burn," he reminded God.

God responded, "Better to not burn anyone else until you are marriage material."

but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion....1 Corinthians 7:9

Does a man marry a woman for whom he has felt or entertained no substantial sexual desire?
Depends on what you mean by "substantial." People of the world get married for sexual desire but for the believer many other factors should go into the decision ahead of sexual desire. And if two people only get married so they can mate it will be doomed from the start.

Comparing "people of the world" to "believers" brings to mind how complicated it can be comparing dating and marriage today where erotic love is prominent to the 1st century where arranged marriages were common. We so often read our 21st century culture back into the NT record. How often would a John and Mary be dating and sitting on a lover's lane at 11 PM in 1st century Israel? Is the fornication spoken of in the NT more likely to be men frequenting brothels, or that connected with idolatry? Of course the scriptures do condemn sex with a woman outside of marriage as sin. When it comes to a man's desires and mental state as he thinks of a woman, how can we know another's heart in that regard. Is he desiring sexual sin? It seems we have to mind our own business to a degree as indicated,

"Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand." (Rom 14:4)
