Why Some Christians still celebrate Halloween

The truth regarding The Christian and Halloween:

I saw a post which said true Christians do not celebrate Halloween. That may sound good, nevertheless, such a statement like that one basically implies that if you are really saved, then you would not have celebrated Halloween. The truth is, there were probably a lot of Christians who celebrated Halloween a couple of days ago. Either because they are ignorant regarding the truth about Halloween or because they backslidden and not walking with God.

And so can a child of God, be involved with an evil practice such as Halloween? Yes. The Christians at the church at Corinth were reproved sharply for their leaven and for continuing in their sin. Paul even made it clear to them that they could not drink of the Lord's cup, and of the cup of devils. And that they could not be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. And yet, the Corinthians were trying to do just that! Talk about confusion. Yet, Paul did not doubt their salvation.

Paul dealt with their Walk. And so the Biblical truth regarding the Christian and Halloween is this:

A Spirit filled Christian will not celebrate Halloween.

But a Carnal Christian may or may not celebrate Halloween. And if a Christian is Carnal, again, it is either because he is still a babe in Christ (i.e. baby Christian), hence he is ignorant of what the Bible says. Which means he also is ignorant of the devil's devices.

OR the Christian is Carnal because he is backslidden and living in sin. Those are the only two possibilities.

In conclusion, remember brethren, hatred of Sin, darkness and Evil is not automatic. That takes time. The more we as born again believers spend time in God's living word and in prayer, the more our love for God will develop and thereby the more we will develop our hatred of Evil, wickedness and sin. The reason why a lot of Christians today do not hate filth, sin, evil and the works of darkness, is because they rarely ever spend any time in God's holy word and in prayer. If you want to hate sin and evil, Christian, then you are going to need to spend time in God's holy word. And spend time with Him in prayer. The more we renew our minds daily with the word of God, the more we will hate and abhor that which is evil. Since we will begin to think more like God thinks. And we know that God and His word, the King James Bible, hate and abhor that which is evil.

Do you celebrate Christmas with a Christmas tree? That was a pagan practice.

Do you ever allow your kids to participate in finding Easter eggs? Which was a pagan concept related to the god of fertility.

Where in God's Word does it say giving candy to kids is evil? Is your neighbor worshipping demons? Trying to summon demons? Worshipping Satan? Or simply giving candy? What about the church down the street who hosts a trunk or treat and gives out salvation pamplets and Jesus loves you bags? Better than kids going to a house that may actually be into witchcraft.

I feel the Word will speak better to this.

Romans 14
New International Version

14 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.

We are quarreling over candy. If you are implying everyone who goes trick or treating is worshipping a demon then if their was any truth to that I would agree. But the majority especially Christians are simply collecting candy or using the opportunity to share the gospel.

5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.

Most consider the day to be alike all others. Just a day to gain and allow the kids to dress up as their favorite super hero or princess.

13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

This is a stumbling block to new Christians.

14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.

Nothing is unclean in itself. It is what we do that makes something unclean. Giving candy (amoral) or worshipping demons (immoral) or sharing the gospel (moral).

19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

Let us make peace.

22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves.

If you feel condemned then you yourself do not participate on Halloween (but keep it between you and God INLESS we are talking about demon worship.

23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

Many Christians including good Christians I know do trunk or treats with the church. They do not feel condemned and faithfully believe it not to be a sin to give candy out.

Where on earth does that holiday originate? I mean, it must be somehow based on something, good grief, any Dumbo bumbo can see that the people who draw that cartoony garbage aren't inspired and original enough to have thought of it themselves! Surely the date must at least have some other meaning, perhaps from one of the traditional liturgical calendars, or be of some secular ontological significance. It's not that I don't care about really Christian religious people whose legal beliefs are offended by the dark midnight chaos and stuff, it's just that as a person, all I see is badly drawn art, narrow small sets of silly cartoonish and really ugly artistic subjects, and just a shallow, stupid, materialistic distraction from normal sober daytime life. Where did they get that? in particular, what other important historical real actual events have happened on an October 31?

Question:

These carnal/earthly Christians; after celebrating Halloween, do they need to ask for forgiveness?

Understand, many Congregations do a "Trunk or Treat" night on Halloween. Usually in the Church parking lot. There the children can come and get candy and such and there are usually activities for them to enjoy. In this way, the children do not feel left out of the experience other children of non Christian families are experiencing. This is EXACTLY what the early elders of the Church did with pagan holidays. Turn then into a celebration of God/Jesus/Christianity. In that way, the newly converted Christians could celebrate a Holiday that was God Centered, and NOT demonic.

As for the normal celebration of Halloween. Let me ask:

Would a Christian dress their child up as a demon, devil, or some other demonic creature? The whole concept of Halloween IS NOT kids getting candy, it is to celebrate a pagan holiday.

Maybe some are familiar with the 4th Ward of Houston, Texas. There is a pagan temple there with all the horrible statues one can imagine decorating the yard. What goes on there, only they and God knows, but the evil essence of the place can be felt just walking by. What they look forward to every year is Halloween. Their sacred night to worship their god..........the devil......

Once again:

Christmas is the celebration of the Birth of Jesus the Christ. Yes, there was a pagan holiday celebrated at or around that date, and, yes, the new converts usually participated in the celebrations. But, they were PAGAINS and NOT new believers. The early church leaders realized this and turned evil celebrations into God centered Celebrations.....THAT IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE between Christmas and Halloween.

Easter same difference/reason it is celebrated by the church today. However, Christian churches SHOULD be celebrating Resurrection Sunday, not Easter.
As well, such celebrations should be conducted at the Church, and there should be some "teaching service" for the children to explain WHY we celebrate Resurrection Sunday.

Christmas and Easter/Resurrection Sunday are GOD CENTERED celebrations for the Church.

HALLOWEEN IS NOT!

Y'all do as you are led, makes no difference to me. You will or may not answer to God for your actions.

1 Thessalonians, Chapter 5:

18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19Quench not the Spirit.
20Despise not prophesyings.
21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Enjoyed your post. I would just add the reason a lot of Christians don't hate things like Halloween is because there are getting to be fewer and fewer people who will tell them it's wrong. Study of God's word is good, but new believers need loving influences who will show them right from wrong, like Paul with the Corinthians.

A lot of Churches do Trunk or Treat. This is probably a better alternative to Trick or Treat. But it's still like having one foot in and one foot out. Either love the world, or love God and hate the world. A good Christian response to Halloween would be to just ignore it or use it as an opportunity to share the Gospel, without the "Christianized" trappings of Halloween.
