John (a Levite) was baptizing repentance for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Jesus was sinless. He was about to start his (3 1/2? year) earthly ministry. He was anointed by the Holy Spirit and the Father approved Him.

His baptism represented His future death, burial and resurrection.

Why is Jesus' baptism necessary? Who in the crowd would understand or get the message of this symbolic event?

Are we to understand at this time? Nothing in the Bible is useless.

This verse comes to mind - Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Was John the Baptist a prophet? Was Jesus a prophet? Did Jesus' baptism represent rebirth? Is Jesus the LORD God?

Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.

Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Death, Burial, and Resurrection - [See Deuteronomy 24:1-4] "Law of Marriage and Divorce] Jesus has come as God with us and died, and resurrected, so that the divorced wife can now remarry her first husband. Because our first husband (YHWH) who divorced the ten tribes/House of Israel/Ephraim, died, and was buried for 3 days and 3 nights, and then resurrected so that Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law [of marriage and divorce] by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven/GOD is at hand. Two Kingdoms brought back together (Tribe of Judah & Tribe of Israel) to make One Kingdom with One King.

Ezekiel 37:16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
Eze_37:17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
Eze_37:19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
