I can't look up the verse now I have in my head but it speaks of seeing His glory, but not exactly His face.

I know we will see the Son, Jesus, but will we have access to or see the Father's Face?
1 Corinthians 13 says that when that which is perfect is come, after the resurrection, we will see him Face to Face.

Also the scripture you were thinking of was probably Exodus 33
17And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

I love this passage. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock That will preach.
Also Notice the statement and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. This is the Glory of the Lord and why they were able to say when they saw Jesus that they saw the Glory of the Lord. Jesus was always trying to get the Pharisees to understand this when they said things like, "You cant heal on the sabbath, thats against the word of God"
If they understood the heart and mind of God.. and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.... they would not have been so dull witted. It is like today when Christian theologians teach that a woman cant preach in the pulpit becuase she is female and that somehow would be violation of the authority verses they misunderstand. If they knew the Heart and mind of God they would remember that it is Gods will to pour out ministry gifts of the Holy Spirit on all flesh and...
and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.... and they would be glad to see a woman preach.

To see the face of God is to have the knowledge of God that causes a person to believe in the unseen the holy place . We could call it faith to faith, the same as face to face as it is written. It providing us with the law of faith .

Face of mankind represents no faith in a God not seen .We can see the backside or after effect . No armor for that he is the rear guard. But no man can look at his bright as the Sun glory. He covers that with darkness in the palm of his hand

Exodus 33:17-23 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

We walk by the backside, faith to faith or face to face in the revealed knowledge of God . He is the light on our journey of faith.
