Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. Those who think they have wisdom but have never feared the Lord, how have they begun knowledge or wisdom?

Pro_1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Pro_1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Pro_2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Pro_8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Pro_9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Pro_10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
Pro_14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
Pro_14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Pro_15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Pro_15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
Pro_16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
Pro_19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Pro_22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
Pro_23:17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Do not let people deceive you into believing that the fear of the Lord means to reverence Him, or respect Him. Do a study of ALL verses which plainly teach what it means to "Fear the Lord". Scriptures teaches us what this fear is.

Rom_2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; (That includes YOU too)

Col_3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Gal_6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Luk_12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

i have feared God my whole life, knowing that the above verses are True. if you do wrong, you will be punished.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

scourge = A scourge is a whip or lash, especially a multi-thong type, used to inflict severe corporal punishment or self-mortification on the back. Usually made of leather

God scourgeth (PUNISHES) every person He receives. You do wrong, He will repay to you for the wrong that you did. If you sow to the flesh of the flesh you shall reap corruption, you reap what you yourself sow. This is why i fear the Lord.

i Love my Mom Dearly and she loves me, but i as a child, feared her a great deal. If i did wrong, she would punish me. Depending on the severity of what i did wrong, i would be punished by standing in a corner, no dessert, grounded, belt, switch from a tree that i got to cut myself. i kept on the straight and difficult path because i feared her.

i, to this very day FEAR the LORD. if i knowingly and willingly commit sin, Scriptures plainly teaches HE will punish me, i believe Scriptures are TRUE. Therefore i have learned to hate sin, because the consequences of His punishments are worse than the momentary pleasure received from the sin i willingly commit, regardless what that sin may be. God is my Father, if i do wrong, He will punish me. People from this generation would do well to believe the Scriptures and start FEARING GOD.
To fear God is the beginning of knowledge, so if you think you have knowledge, yet you have never, nor do now, fear God, how have you any knowledge at all? Have you not tried to gain knowledge another way?

Fear (wikipedia)= Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat that occurs in certain types of organisms, which causes a change in metabolic and organ functions and ultimately a change in behavior,

In the Old Testament, didn't the "Lord thy God"(Jesus) always say, If you do this, then i will do this, but if you do not do this, then i will not give you rain, not give you ____________.

Leave it to the last day generation to not know or understand what "Fear the Lord" actually means, they will tell you it means everything BUT what fear actually means.

People in this generation sow to their flesh continually, and presently are not suffering corruption in their flesh. These are they that are storing up wrath for themselves, in what is to come upon the Earth.

Rom 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

Job 21:30 That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

Psa 125:3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
(sin)

This verse teaches that the rod of the wicked will be used against the righteous if they put forth their hands unto sinning.

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

So if you are sowing to your flesh and not suffering any punishment for doing so, does not mean you will NEVER suffer for doing so, Scriptures can't be broken, if you are sowing to your flesh, you WILL reap corruption in your flesh, that is not something i am saying and teaching that is what the Word of God plainly says, and it is TRUE.

Ecc 8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

If you are sowing to your flesh, you WILL reap corruption during the hour of temptation. This is when many, and i say MANY will fall away from God, when they are reaping what they themselves deserve to reap, but they will not repent of their deeds, but will altogether fall away from Him, because of the corruption that is in their flesh which they do not understand what God is doing that to them. They fail to understand the Word of God, and failed to listen to His servants which plainly told them they will reap what they have sown. So if you are one of those who have sown to the flesh AFTER you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, you will reap corruption in that flesh. i know that i too will reap this corruption in my flesh. The difference will be, i already know when it comes upon me, that i deserve it, because of all the sowing to my flesh that i have done. i will accept His punishment and NOT turn away from God in my hour of Temptation to do so. But many in this generation will not understand why they are suffering so horribly in their flesh, they will turn away from God because they do not understand nor do they think they deserve such scourging from God Himself, these will fall away because of their ignorance not knowing or remembering the verse that plainly taught, if you sow to the flesh of the flesh you shall reap corruption. It does not say, you MIGHT reap corruption, the Word of God plainly says you WILL reap corruption. Woe to this generation who sows to their flesh continually, not realizing they are storing up corruption for themselves.

Good news. Now you know. Stop sowing to the flesh. Because if you don't, you are only making it worse for yourself what is to come. i do not say all this to upset anyone. i say all this because i love you, and you really should know the TRUTH.

Start fearing the Lord TODAY

DiscipleDave, The Fear of the LORD is indeed a healing for those who will receive it. As you quoted The Fear of the LORD is the beginning of Wisdom. And repentance is to go in the way of understanding (see Proverbs 21:16).

Lev 26:40-42 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
(41) And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
(42) Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

Eze 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Praise Jesus Christ the Savior of all that there is forgiveness with God!

Proverbs 6:1-2 (World English Bible)
(1) My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;
(2) You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.

Well said my brother.
Now look at this proverb from the new covenant.
Since we have a new covenant of flesh and blood His Flesh and His Blood where is the fear now. Not under the law in which no one could atain but under grace and mercy the Cross his love for me and in His perfect love there is no fear. Therefore if His love has been lavished on us we have all wisdom all knowledge all power through his Love in us. So to answer your question the beginning of wisdom is His love and the acceptance of it through faith. NO FEAR IN THE PERFECT LOVE OF JESUS.
