Perhaps it would be better to write an updated Study Guide for your particular demagraphic. Help them see the truth, importance, and exciting things that are in the Bible as it is.

Think about it. The Bible has all the things found in some very exciting movies, TV shows and books of today. Jealousy, lust, revenge, love, mystery, violence, wrath AND forgiveness, grace, acceptance, and joy. What more could a person want?

The biggest 'Aha' moment I had early on was that, for example, when Paul wrote about being imprisioned he didn't know what was coming next. He didn't know how the story ended and we do. I know this sounds kind of "DUH!" but it put it in a whole new context for me. It's not like the Bible was a book written as one single book from beginning to end like books are written today. A lot of people don't understand that.

Anyway, you asked for our thoughts so there they are. God Bless you in your endeavors to do His will.

I would suggest not calling it a new version of the Bible but a modern adaptation, fictional account based upon some Biblical stories.

kind of like they do modern retakes on classics like Romeo and Juliet.

I would take one story at a time and develop short stories in modern context and make an collection of short stories/ book.

Definitely don't call it an "updated version of the Bible" it would be false advertising and rub people the wrong way.

So I am writing an updated version of the Bible. I'm starting with Genesis tho. Which i finished, just needs edited a bit.
But I need some advice.
Like...I want to make it a bit more accessible to young people. Such as keeping the stories the same, but changing the locations to US locations.
Also attempting to make it a little more entertaining...
But i dont want to lose the original stories at all.

So any advice or anyone interested. Let me know..
Well with fairy tales such as yours, locations and time is not that important, but with God's Word they are very important.

Lol nice and where Babylon?

Can't recall. I've only finished genesis so far. A lot of it takes play in Jersey tho.
And at the end of Genesis the locale is Cali and in the early 1900s.

The issue i'm tackling isn't the New Testament tho. I'm beginning with the Old Testament.
And theres a lack of messaging there a lot of the times.

i find you version kind of offensive and adding a lot of things not found in the Bible. such as
21stCenturyHolyBible ‏@c21HolyBible Gen 1:2 At first the universe was empty and had no defined shape. It was dark too. God used it for flips and dancing.
How does claiming God used the void "for flips and dancing" add to the understanding of scripture?

It seems more like ridicule than serious desire to spread the Gospel message found in the Bible.

Were talking about a Jewish doctrine here. Jews talk abotu learning through humor. Why not add a little humor to it?

Yeah perhaps :) I was also thinking of NYC
It gets complex though. In the old testament its not as simple as making one locale one locale in USA and have it translate easily.

But..it all makes sense when you read through it.

upvote me on reddit!
21st Century Holy Bible! Its the Bible meets modern American English and American locale. Also. It's easy to read, verse by verse translated, witty and entertaining. Base goal is 5k. Dream goal is 25k. (Follow on Twitter @c21HolyBible) : kickstarter

My advice: Don't do it! We have enough heretical texts to deal with.

Don't is the best advice especially if you want to embellish it to make it more ENTERTAINING....

Serious.......entertaining......WOW!.......Maybe just read the bible and let it speak to you as it contains unbelievable deep truths that brings true joy and EXCITEMENT to those who find the buried GEMS found therein.

No way. I mean there needs to be a version that is more accessible. What percentage of young Christians have read the ENTIRE Bible?
Not even young Christians. ALL Christians?

I'm tentatively calling it 21st Century Holy Bible. Not to be confused with 21st Century King James version.

Well. I was thinking of translating it from English...to ....modern English. Like how we all speak now.
Its kind of a translation and transplantation.
That is a great idea!

Make sure you dont change places though for the meanings of the places are critical for prophecy
the names in hebrew all mean something

what you could do is change the hebrew names with the real meanings!
that would be AWESOME!

I'm a bit confused. There are already modern translations of the Bible that are easy to understand. At one end you have the more formal and word-for-word translations like the ESV, and to a lesser extent, NRSV and then you have some that strike a pretty good balance of word-for-word and thought-for-thought like the Holman Christian Standard. At the other end of the spectrum you have thought-for-thought translations that are quite good like the NLT. Then you have paraphrases like The Message. I don't think it's a bad Bible but it most certainly shouldn't be your only Bible or even your main Bible.
