Pagans would not worship or bring gifts to the Christchild. The magi were not pagans. Nor was the star sent by satan. That is a JW belief. They use to celebrate Christmas then suddenly changed. The OP can tell us why I'm sure.
I think God who is not a man as us sent the light which they called His star in the east. But whether they were worshipping the image a star or sign , coming from a previous prophecy or the Spirit of Christ I do not think it is shown.
If they were worshipping the flesh of one who had "no power" then it could be reckoned as idol worship as the use of a teraphim. Like those Rachel robbed from her father.
He was not declared the Son of God, Christ not seen by His birth. That would seem to be the wrong focus. We walk by faith the unseen and not by sight as that seen.
Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead
Again power by the resurrection not by the birth, a Catholic thing.
