Hi folks,
As you may know, the Zorostrian religion is an old one that had its origins in Ancient Persoa and was displaced by Islam in the seventh century AD. This religion is credited with the folloing ideas. Monotheism, dualistic cosmology, that is, a struggle between good and evil, messianism, eternal judgement, heaven, hell and a final victory of the good and the resurrection of the dead. Some of these ideas do not exist in Judaism and the theory runs that such ideas were picked up by the jews during the second temple period (515 - 70 AD) and were then poached into Christianity. This idea is being championed online by Dr Richard Carrier, a militant atheist.
The problem with this is verifying when Zoroastrianism really did pick up its doctrines and how to get some concrete dates. Does anyone have any ideas or books that deal with this matter?
All opinions and ideas on this very welcome, as usual.
