To understand the number 40 you first have to understand the number four. The number four is perhaps one of the most frequent numbers used in the bible.
There are four rivers flowing out from Eden. Genesis 2:10
Winds and Beasts
“I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. And four great beasts came up of the sea, different from one another.” Daniel 7:2
“and he will send out his angels with a load trumpet call, and they will elect from the four winds, from one end of the heaven to the other.” Matthew 24:31
The Garments
“When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier..” John 19:23 This is only a very small portion of what you will find in the bible concerning the number four it is a very prophetic and complete number to the Hebrew and is also a number that governs our world such as the four seasons and four weeks in a month ect. forty is a number that normally represents maturity and also a time of hardship or trial, it is no surprise that the human body begins it's process of become old age near or at forty because this is the number of maturity, grey or fading hair is a sign to most your getting old but it also means your mature physically. Think of all the times the number forty is used in the bible do recall very many of them being easy times? and was the person in that situation immature?
