As things have changed over the summer, mainly stemming from my colleague/roommate's marriage and relocation, I have been left in a precarious situation.

The challenges at work have been well documented. If anything, those are the challenges I feel best equipped to tackle! It has been exhausting to work alone, but I feel that I am getting things done. The biggest headache at work? Having to transport large items. It's common for band directors to own trucks or SUVs specifically because those needs commonly arrive. I've always been fine without a truck, since my colleague/roomie had a truck and The Ex had a truck. Now, I've just my Miata. Try loading a couple of tubas in a Miata to get to the repair shop.

Most of the furniture in the house belonged to the roomie as well. When I moved in, the plan was to relocate to Austin a year later, and The Ex took "our" (really, hers) furniture when she moved there. Well, obviously, I don't have THAT furniture, and with the roomie moving out, the dining room set, living room set, and TV went with him. Also, his hunting rifles, so we...I mean...so I am now gunless as well. (Self-defense. I love my country, but I fear my government.)

So, in this whirlwind of change over the summer, I have found myself in want of:

--A cargo vehicle of some kind
--Something to sit on in my living room
--Something to eat on in my dining room
--A television (I have a bedroom sized one, not a living room sized one)
--A gun

In the past two days, this is what has happened.

--On Saturday, at dinner with several brothers and sisters in Christ, I mentioned that I'd spent the day shopping for furniture. A sister spoke up and said she'd had a fine couch in her garage for the past two years that she felt compelled to not sell (but didn't know why), and that now she wanted to give it to me!
--Later that night, my father called and asked if I wanted his Ford Ranger, which he almost never used anymore. Since it wouldn't pass inspection in Texas, he would keep it registered and insured in New Mexico under his name.
--My parents drove into town today to spend the day with me. At lunch, after church, my mother said she wanted to buy me a TV.

Three of my needs, taken care of, with no effort on my part. And you know, the kitchen thing? I've got folding metal chairs and a really old folding leaf table. That'll keep me just fine. And the personal protection? That can wait for now.

God really does bless me more than I deserve.
