I live in an area with a large number of Catholics, and they all send their kids to Parish School Religion (PSR). PSR seems to be a pretty rigorous study program—almost like school. The Catholic children who finish PSR seem extremely knowledgeable about Catholicism. That seems in sharp contrast to our non-denominational church students.
As a Sunday School teacher at our non-denominational church, our goal is to make sure the kids learn about the Bible so they can have a relationship with Christ and apply His teachings to their lives. The class sizes are large so it is hard to spend quality time teaching individuals about the Bible. The attendance at our Sunday School is pretty inconsistent for most kids so even the best lesson series may not reach students. We also have to incorporate lots of fun activities to make sure they want to keep coming back. I wanted to find a Bible study for myself that my kids could also attend.
I found something called Community Bible Study. Unlike most church Bible studies, this program offers something for all ages. My son and I attended our first meetings last night, and the lessons seemed intense. The program leader said they have classes worldwide.
