Moses was such a powerful and popular leader, if God had allowed the Israelite people to know where he was buried they would have set up an altar and worshiped him. God took Moses body and secretly buried him. In our churches today if we have a strong and a popular leader it becomes very hard for the next leader to take over. If the Leader has just moved on or he has passed away the Church many times will set up imaginary alters and worship the past memory of the Last leader. Churches should build their trust in God, Jesus, and the Power of the Holy Spirit, not the man in charge!!!
In some cases I think that God Himself needs to Speak to some Churches and say My Servant (the former leader is gone) it is time to follow your new Leader.

5 Then Moses, the Lord’s servant, died there in the land of Moab. The Lord had told Moses this would happen.
6 He buried Moses in Moab. This was in the valley across from Beth Peor. But even today, no one knows exactly where Moses’ grave is.
Deuteronomy 34: 5-6

2 “My servant Moses is dead. Now you and all these people must go across the Jordan River. You must go into the land I am giving to the Israelites.
3 I promised Moses that I would give you this land, so I will give you all the land wherever you go.
Joshua 1: 3-4 ERV Bible.
