Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”). Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John—but you will be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”).
John 1:40-42 (NLT)
Do you feel insignificant? Do you feel like you are not doing enough for God? Perhaps you may be thinking that what you do does not even matter. Let me encourage you today. Any task you do for God, whether it be small or big, makes a difference in God's Kingdom.
Consider Andrew, a fisherman Jesus called to be a disciple. There are very few passages in the New Testament about Andrew, yet when he is mentioned, good things usually follow. In John 6, Andrew brings a young lad with bread and fish to Jesus. Jesus blesses the food and distributes it to at least 5,000 people. In today's devotional passage, Andrew brings his brother Simon to Jesus. This encounter with the Son of God is life-changing to Simon. Aside from changing his name to Peter, Jesus transforms Peter into one of the most dynamic disciples of the Christian faith. In Acts 2, Peter is filled completely with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. As a result, he began to preach boldly. Peter led at least 3,000 people to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In retrospect, Andrew was very instrumental in the conversion of his brother as well as countless other people.
Again, let me encourage you. You matter to God. What you do for God matters also. Even if you lead praise and worship at your church youth group or participate in one of your church's dramas, your role in God's Kingdom is very important. God can use you at any age to fulfill His plan and purpose for your life. Who knows? You may be instrumental in bringing the next great evangelist to Jesus Christ.
