Good weekend in Christ Jesus. Have you think about the meaning of meekness?

Certainly, meekness isn’t mildness of genius or temperament. The proof of it is Moses that was considered the meeker man at his time (Numbers 12.3). Jesus is meek and humble of heart (Matthew 11.29) and, even so, we can see Him getting angry (Matthew 21.12; Mark 3.5). Not to mention that we read along all the Holy Scripture about the wrath of the Creator (Psalms 78.31; 85.4; John 3.36; Colossians 3.6; 1Thessalonians 2.16; etc.).

In other words, meekness isn’t passively to assent to the evil. Meekness is absence of agitation, hurry and fidgetiness.

  • “Behold I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and simple as doves.” (Matthew 10.16 - DRB).
  • “For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: wherein they think it strange that all of you run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:” (1Peter 4.3,4).

Paul also made similar behest:

  • “And that all of you study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; that all of you may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that all of you may have lack of nothing.” (1Thessalonians 4.11,12);
  • "For your obedience has come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.” (Romans 16.19).

Moses was meek because he never coveted the goods of anyone (Numbers 16.15). He only worried about seeing the very image of the Creator (Numbers 12.8) and lead the people of Israel toward Canaan. This made doable that Moses, instead of vindicating his rights, in general he interceded by Israelites when they sinned against him (for instance on Exodus 32.11-14; Numbers 14.11-20; Numbers 16.46).

So, be sober (simple, parsimonious and frugal) and mind involving only in what will help you to be more steadfast in the faith, hope and love, inasmuch as the same sufferings are accomplished in our brethren who are in the world (1Peter 5.8,9).
