"Hab. 3:1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth."

((This (the following) is going to be mournful or sorrowful. That's what Shigionoth means.))

"Hab. 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy."

((Habakkuk is crying out to God that he was always merciful and in the time of judgment, to remember and show his mercy.))

"Hab.3:3 God came from Teman,"

((This is Edom.))

"and the Holy One from mount Paran."

((This is Sinai.))

"His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise."

((Psalm 113:2-6 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!))

((Verse 3 is referring to the journey of the people through the wilderness after they left Egypt. They journeyed from the wilderness of Edom (Teman) to mount Hor in Sinai (Paran) where the LORD gave the law to Moses and the people.))

"Hab. 3:4 And his brightness was as the light;"

((Our LORD is the beacon of truth.))

"he had horns coming out of his hand:"

((Our LORD holds all the power of the nations.))

"and there was the hiding of his power."

((Our LORD is the one who brings war or peace and uses the nations with their armies to accomplish his will.))

"Hab. 3:5 Before him went pestilence,"

((Our LORD is the one who brings pestilence.))

"and burning coals went forth at his feet."

((Our LORD has all power to burn away all opposition.))

"Hab. 3:6 He stood, and measured the earth:"

((Our LORD has great strength and rules all of the earth.))

"he beheld, and drove asunder the nations;"

((In the sight of the LORD, the nations were destroyed.))

"and the everlasting mountains were scattered,"

((The great enduring kingdoms or nations were undone and fled.))

"the perpetual hills did bow:"

((The long lasting nations were humbled before the LORD.))

"his ways are everlasting."

((He is and always will be the Almighty God.))

"Hab. 3:7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble."

((This refers to the journey of his people, after leaving Egypt, through the desert to the promised land. The LORD guided them and helped them defeat their enemies.))

"Hab.3:8 Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers?"

((Was the LORD displeased and angry against the kingdoms or nations?))

"was thy wrath against the sea,"

((Was the LORD'S wrath against the people?))

"that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?"

((That the LORD brought war against those nations for the salvation of his people.))

"Hab. 3:9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word."

((This is the bow of "Rev. 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow;" What's made naked or what is revealed is what is written in the Word of God. It is the law that the tribes of Jacob (Israel) pledged to obey. It is what is written in the Word of God fulfilled.))

"Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers."

((These are the rivers of God carrying the knowledge of salvation all through the earth. This is the knowledge of the goodness of the LORD flowing like rivers through the earth. "Psalm 65:9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God,"))

"Hab. 3:10 The mountains saw thee, and they trembled:"

((The kingdoms or nations of men saw the works of God and realized the truth and were afraid.))

"the overflowing of the water passed by:"

((Mountains and rivers mean kingdoms or nations. When it's written that a river overflows, it means that a nation leaves its habitation to bring war and conflict to surrounding lands. It's a river that overflows its banks or borders to inundate other lands. When it's written that "the overflowing of the water passed by", it means that the times of the wars of nation against nation are over. "Is. 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."))

"the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high."

((This is the depths of the sea or the people crying out to God, lifting their hands to him in praise and worship.))

"Hab.3:11 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation:"

((This is the power of God as in: "Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.---So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day."))

"at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear."

((As long as the light was needed to achieve victory, so the light shined on the weapons of war.))

"Hab. 3:12 Thou didst march through the land in indignation,"

((The LORD brought war against those nations that angered him.))

"thou didst thresh the heathen in anger."

((The LORD beat down the Gentiles in anger.))

"Hab. 3:13 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people,"

((The LORD brought war for the salvation of his people.))

"even for salvation with thine anointed;"

((The battles fought for the salvation of his people were led by Jesus Christ.))

"thou woundest the head out of the house of the wicked,"

((The LORD brought pain to the leaders of the nations who were responsible for teaching and encouraging their people to practice wickedness.))

"by discovering the foundation unto the neck."

((By the revelation of the lies on which they stood and cutting them off or destroying them.))

"Hab. 3:14 Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages:"

((The LORD sends his armies against the leaders of the nations who practice wickedness and oppose him.))

"they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me:"

((They tried to beat down, destroy and eliminate those who taught the truth of God.))

"their rejoicing was to devour the poor secretly."

((They rejoiced when they could use their power to control the people; and through their lies, manipulate them, so that they were unknowingly led to practice wickedness to their destruction.))

"Hab. 3:15 Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses,"

((The "sea" is the people and "horses" are power. Our LORD easily overcame the people with his power.))

"through the heap of great waters."

(("heap of great waters" means amassed or great armies. The LORD easily destroyed huge armies of men.))

"Hab. 3:16 When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice:"

((Habakkuk heard the voice of the LORD and understood the enormity of what was told to him and was filled with fear.))

"rottennes entered into my bones,"

((Habakkuk's strength as a mere man before the power of God was shaken and removed.))

"and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble:"

((Habakkuk feared and hoped that he would be kept from the judgment of God when it came.))

"when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops."

((When the LORD comes to bring judgment upon the people who oppose him, he will come with his armies.))

"Hab. 3:17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines;"

((The fig tree and the (grape) vine are symbolic of Israel. Here it means that the people are not bearing fruit onto God. They are living in unrighteousness.))

"the labour of the olive shall fail,"

((The olive means the oil which means the light of the Word. The Word of God which went out unto all the earth is not heard or heeded by the people. They follow unrighteousness.))

"and the fields shall yield no meat;"

((The fields are the world and there is no truth in the streets. There is no harvest of righteousness in the earth.))

"the flock shall be cut off from the fold,"

((The people shall be cut off from salvation.))

"and there shall be no herd in the stalls:"

((The people are separated from God.))

"Hab. 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation."

"Hab.3:19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet,"

(("make my feet like hinds' (deer) feet" means not to stumble or fall.))

"and he will make me to walk upon mine high places."

((The LORD will cause me to walk in victory.))
