How do you measure people?

• Pro 20:10 -> “Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the LORD.”.
• Pro 11:1 -> “A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.”.
• Lev 19:35 -> “You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity.”.
• Pro 20:23 -> “Unequal weights are an abomination to the LORD, and false scales are not good.”.

There are three things that the Creator abominate: partiality (unequal weights and measures), false scales and scarce measure:

• Mic 6:10,11 -> “Can I forget any longer the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed? Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights?”.

At the time of Amos, the Israelites was taking advantage of the misfortunes and naivety of their fellow citizens in order to enthrall them:

• Amo 8:4-7 -> “Hear this, you who trample on the needy and bring the poor of the land to an end, saying, “When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great and deal deceitfully with false balances, that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals and sell the chaff of the wheat?” The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.”.

Although the Creator taught them several times about the importance of full and fair measure, they refused to obey Him:

• Deu 25:13-15 -> “You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a large and a small. You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small. A full and fair weight you shall have, a full and fair measure you shall have, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.”.

You can ask: but how can the Creator allow this? Take a look at this:

• Pro 16:11 -> “A just balance and scales are the LORD's; all the weights in the bag are his work.”.

Note that ALL the weights in the bag are His work. So, although it is abominable the dishonest and exaggerated profit, Israel’s people were in great sin (as we can see, for instance in Amos 2;4:1;5:22-24;6:1-6). The Creator only will revenge all disobedience when our obedience is fulfilled (2Cor 10:6).

So, have a good day always measuring every one with good measure and without partiality (Luke 6:38). Recall that scarce measure and several weights and measures turn some into abomination (before the Creator and men). And the abominable:

1 – won’t enter in the kingdom of heaven:

• Rev 21:8 -> “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”.

2 – will be measured back:

• Mat 7:2 ->” For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”.
