Is there sense to heap material goods? (Part 2)

What are we accrue goods for?

2 – so that we can live regaled and splendidly:

  • “And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And *I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry* .” (Luke 12:16-19).

Many believers say: “but, what is the problem in yearning for good moments? Well, at first, this isn’t wrong. However, we need to be careful:

  • “He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil shall not be rich.” (Pro 21:17).

Who crave for pleasure won’t be able to increase in good qualities, in character. They only care about their fleshy delights. But the worst is:

  • “Fornication and wine and new wine *take away the heart* .” (Hos 4:11).

And this can be seen in the fact that took place, which Jesus used to reveal truths about live after death:

  • “There was a certain rich man who was customarily clothed in purple and fine linen and making merry in luxury every day. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. But even the dogs came and licked his sores. And it happened that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich one also died and was buried. And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.” (Luke 16:19-23)

Lazarus used to lay at the rich man’s gate, starving and being licked by the dogs in his sores. The rich man, nevertheless, didn’t care about him. It didn’t have room is his heart for compassion and goodness.

But the evil don’t stop there. Many rich uses their wealth to adulterate the law.

  • “Shall horses run on the rock? Will one plow there with oxen? For you have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock; you who rejoice in nothing, who say, Have we not taken horns to ourselves by our own strength?” (Amos 6:12,13)
  • “Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the scribes who write toil; to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to steal the right from the poor of My people, that widows may be their prey, and they rob the orphans!” (Isa 10:1,2).
  • “Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You, which frames mischief by a law?” (Psa 94:20)

They think as Ephraim:

  • “And Ephraim said, Yet I have become rich, I have found much wealth for myself. *In all my labors they shall find in me no iniquity that is sin* .” (Hos 12:8).

Even if nobody recognizes their faults, this won’t change the reality of their heart and, thereby, of their salvation. Never they will take heed to the ways of life (see 2Tim 2:25,26), let alone to the true happiness. After all, with their heart taken away, they won’t be able to figure out “who they are” and “what is their alliance with the Creator” (Psalms 25:14).

So, have a good day being happy in Christ and His Body. Seeking felicity in the goods of this world is very dangerous and vain toil (inasmuch as God gives wisdom, and knowledge, and joy to a man who is good in His sight (Ecc 2:26):

  • “Do not labor to be rich; cease from your own understanding. Will your eyes fly on it? And it is gone! For surely it makes wings for itself; it flies into the heavens like an eagle.” (Pro 23:4)
