(This blog continues a discussion about ways to come near to God. This is the fourth blog in a series that focuses on prayer.)

I hope you have made reading your Bible daily a priority. If so, it will be easy for you to transition into this next idea to come close to God in prayer. There are many ways to pray the Bible, and this is just one suggestion to enliven your prayer life. This way of praying the Bible works like a conversation.

1. Read a verse or passage in the Bible. This gives God has a chance to speak to you. In this example, we read Matthew 5:28.
"But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

2. You respond to God's Word with a corresponding prayer. Ask God to tranform you into the person He is calling you to be in the Bible verse or passage. (More like Christ!) Your prayer that corresponds to Matthew 5:28 might sound like this: "Lord, help me to see people the way You see people. Forgive me for looking at people in sinful ways. Thank You that You are delighted to rescue me from sin. In Christ's Name, Amen."

Try this! Buy a children's Bible for the child God has put into your life today. It could lead to a lifelong love for His Word.

Praying the Bible is more challenging than some of the other ways to pray, but go ahead and give it a try. If you find this way is too difficult, try something else. There is no one right way to pray. May God bless you and come near to you.

Prayer is only as good as God is. Since He is good, so is prayer. Prayer works because He does. Prayer changes things because God changes things. Prayer makes a difference because God has determined to make a difference. Prayer matters because you matter to God.
