The pieces lay shattered on the floor
And tears fall from my eyes
And midst it all I try to breathe
Between the broken cries
My heart in tatters, in shreds and bits
I cannot mend my own
And bridges burned, lone island now
I'm forced to fend alone
In obstinacy and arrogance
I fought to go my way
And left and laughed and went and lived
Lived full each night and day
Feasts and whims and fancies many
Caught my heart, I went
But underneath the shiny veneer
My soul found not content
Oh, I found out how hollow, less,
This goalless path had turned
And I got cast aside, trod on
And laughed at, scorned, shunned, burned
Those friends were not my friends at all
Those pleasures meant naught more
And having given everything
I had naught to live for
I tried to go back to the start
Start fresh, again, anew
But I am lost, and so confused
No salvation in view
Foolish, I thought I could do it alone
But now I see my wrongs
Given my heart to fading things
Instead whom it belongs
And then HE's there, I feel HIM close
Enveloped in warmth and love
And so much peace and quiet and hope
More than could e'er speak of
And HE gathers the pieces and dusts me off
And forgives me all my sin
And throws a feast and celebrates
And welcomes HIS prodigal in
