I was in a very animated discussion with someone claiming that since the watchmen had been "wrong" the correct thing to do would be to quit.
I am a scientist and I used the scientific method in my teaching. Every year I would hypothesize (educated guess) on two or three things I could do to improve my teaching and the results on the year end exam. I would then measure how well those changes worked, Generally one or two out of three would work and so the next year I would implement those changes widely and try two or three more changes. I never considered that I had been "wrong" when one of my changes had not been an improvement. Instead, I saw incremental improvement from one year to the next. My first year at the school they scored in the bottom 25% of NYC public schools. Year by year we improved and by the last year they had scored in the top 6% of NYC schools.
This is how you do something when no one knows the answer. This is what the watchmen are doing, they are hypothesizing and when they are "wrong" (the rapture doesn't take place) we can reassess. What is "wrong" is the interpretation of the Bible. However, in this process our understanding of the relevant scriptures has improved dramatically. We are diving deep into the scriptures into areas the typical sermons never touched on. This latest message from Dr. Barry Awe is a prime example of how our understanding has increased dramatically.
For example, let's discuss some of the discoveries that were in that message.
1. He was able to walk us through all the feasts that Jesus fulfilled in his ministry.
2. He was able to tie Paul's word about "telling us a mystery" with "hidden feasts" that the OT didn't discuss but were there all the same.
3. We are able to see through the traditional teaching on the "ascension" day, and tie that to "no one knows the day or the hour".
4. We now have a feast, Pentecost, that everyone can see is a NT feast, and is an ideal figure of the rapture. I have shown 20-21 correlations with the scripture and this day. It ties in so many verses that are hard to explain. We can see both that the Lord comes quickly when we are not expecting Him and also He delays His coming. We can see that this is a day that no one knows.
So I want to encourage the believers, what we are doing is interpreting scripture. We are not making stuff up, nor are we predicting the future nor are we claiming to be prophets of God, nor are we trying to sell books or make merchandise of the saints, nor are we cult leaders.
We have several reasons to believe that the Lord will know the rapture date and He will tell us. Noah got into the boat seven days before the flood and Lot was warned to flee the city hours before the fire fell.
John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
If the Lord knows He will tell us. The Lord said that no one knows the day or the hour except His Father, but that was two thousand years ago and that was before He ascended to the throne to sit at the right hand of the Father. It is perfectly reasonable to believe that the Lord will know prior to the rapture and that He will tell us.
