Next, the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given power to scorch the people with fire. And the people were scorched by intense heat, and they cursed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues; yet they did not repent and give Him glory. – Rev.16:8-9

It is interesting to note that in the second and third bowl judgments, God had all the water, salt and fresh (except for the Euphrates), turned into literal blood and that for the purpose of taking vengeance upon the inhabitants of the earth who will have shed the blood of his saints and prophets. Now that there is no water to quench ones thirst or to re-hydrate, God will be causing activity in the sun, possibly a barrage of solar flares, to scorch the inhabitants with intense heat, to sear them.

Here in Arizona in the Phoenix area, we experience temperatures from 110 to 120 degrees throughout the summer. Death Valley often exceeds 120 to 130 degrees. Therefore, this heat here that God sends upon the earth would have to exceed those desert temperatures, because people survive in those temps without issue. However, this judgment of heat is going to be world wide, affecting everyone to one degree or another.

Since there will be no water to drink and the sun will be scorching people with this intense heat, how many fatalities will this result in? We can add this to our growing list of fatalities.

Notice also that the scripture states that even after God pours out this plague of heat, that the inhabitants will still not repent nor give glory to God, even though they know that He is the One responsible for them. This would also infer that God is not only pouring out these plagues to punish, but to get the inhabitants to repent so that he can save them. This would also give us a view into the hardness of the hearts of the people during that time. For even after all of these plagues from the seals, trumpets and now the bowls, people will still not fear God, nor will they repent and glorify Him.
