I'm feeling that the enmities that manifest in my life have a much stronger affect on my emotional well-being than the friendships. As if all the good friendships take a backseat when the animosity that I feel between me and another person enters my mind.

I heard a lady author once say that as humans we have a a strange propensity to hang on to destructive, self-critical thinking. She said (and I'm paraphrasing) that even if everyone in the room likes you its that one person who doesn't like you who really gets to you. To her it was her secret to writing successful novels, but I do think she has a point.
