A man named Cal trudged along a dirt road, knocking on each door on his list as he went. "Hello, I am taking a poll for the Department of High Things and I wanted to talk to you about airplanes for a minute." Through the crack in the door, a man stared back at him. "No." The man intoned, shutting the door. Cal made a mark on his clipboard and headed to the next house, a fancy two-story with a stone veneer and a Corvette parked in the open garage for all to see. "I bet I know what they're going to say", Cal thought to himself as he walked toward the door. "But you know what, I shouldn't try to guess, it's not my job." Cal knocked on the door and waited. The door popped open and a cheerful figure appeared, a man in his 50's who looked oddly cheerful. "Hey!! Come on in, I'm watching a fight!" Said the man, head tilted towards the TV in the room. "Actually, I'm-" Cal was interrupted by an excited shout from the man, as the fighter on the television took a savage blow to the nose and blood streamed out. "I'm here to ask you about airplanes." Said Cal, holding up the clipboard, hoping it would help change the direction of the conversation. The man stared blankly at the TV for a few seconds. "Nah." He said, with a dismissive wave of his hand, eyes still fixed on the television. "But tell you what," he said, briefly looking Cal in the eye. "The keys are in the Corvette, take it for a spin sometime if you want." "I appreciate that. Thank you." Said Cal, walking out the door and heading down the block.

Towards the end of the day, Cal glanced at his watch and noted that it was close to quitting time. Should be enough time for one more poll, he thought, as he rounded the corner onto Easy Street. The first house on the road was an adorable short house with glass-covered windows, set oddly far from the road. Highly intrigued, Cal wondered what sort of person lived in a house like that, as he walked toward the door. After rapping on the door nervously, Cal waited patiently.
