"Dan. 4:11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth."
This is Babylon. It grew from a small regional power to a vast empire that absorbed much of the known world. Under Nebuchadnezzar, it grew very powerful due to all the wealth brought to it through the conquest of other lands and due to the tolls and taxes collected from those who used the trade routes from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea.
"Dan. 4:12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all."
Many journeyed to Babylon because of the potential to make a very good living there. As an example, many come to this nation today for the same reason.
"Dan. 4:12----the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof."
The beasts are those prone to violence. The field is the earth. The fowls of heaven are the eagles that fly high above who seek for prey to shed blood. The beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven are the military might of Babylon. These are the ones skilled in bringing destruction to all they oppose.
"Dan. 4:12-----and all flesh was fed of it."
Babylon then is like our nation today where all were fed by it ---the rich and the poor. Many were enriched and the poor did not go hungry.
