What love is this that covers multitude of sins?

  • “Hatred stirs up fights, but love covers all sins.” (Pro 10:12).
  • “And above all things have fervent love to yourselves, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” (1Pe 4:8).

Many people look on loving as to make encomiums and pamper. Nonetheless, see below:

  • “Brothers, if anyone among you err from the truth, and if anyone turns him back, know that he who turns back the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” (Jas 5:19,20).

And how can you deliver someone from the hell? Saying the truth. Hence Jeremiah say:

  • “Cursed is he who does the work of Jehovah deceitfully, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.” (Jer 48:10).

And Solomon added:

  • “Do not withhold correction from a boy, for if you beat him with the rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.” (Pro 23:13,14).

The truth is that the sin only bring blood, namely:

  • Pain to who carry it out;
  • Pain for those who are victim of it;
  • Pain for those who will be used to correct the transgressor;
  • Pain to Jesus who is pure eyes and, for this, can’t behold evil, nor look upon vexation (Habakkuk 1:13).

Nevertheless, if the sin isn’t treated severely, as a cancer it will obliterate the soul and spirit of the person. So, loving is to have wisdom and courage to recognize that there is time to:

  • embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing (Ecc 3:5), that is to say, time to solace and time to urge and strengthen the person to the work that Jesus called them (as the Creator did with Elijah – 1Kings 19:15-18; see Acts 13:2);
  • time to love, and a time to hate. In other words, time to hate the evil that is rooted in their heart and time to love everything that is of Christ in their life (Ecc 3:8);
  • time of war, and a time of peace (Ecc 3:8), to wit, time to fight against the sin and time to rest and bide in Jesus delighting in His presence (Psa 37:4,7), in the company of those who seek out Christ with a pure heart (Titus 2:22).

So, have a good day seeking opportunities to cover multitude of sins.
