I am trying to be right with God. But there is one particular sin that I can't get over. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to get over it. It's viewing things that are not right on the internet. Porn to be honest. Does anyone have any words of advice?

I can understand where you are coming from. There are two things you need to realize:

#1. That God's is faithful to forgive when we humble ourselves and confess our sins.

#2. The only way to truly break the power of sin over our lives is the learn love (value) God more than we value the desires of this world which draw us back into sin.

2 Peter, Chapter 1 states that God Himself has provided everything we need to live a life of Godliness and righteousness however, it is up to us to both believe and embrace this very important truth. You and I simply do not have the power to break such bondage in and of ourselves. No amount of human will, human wisdom or human works can break those chains. Only God has the power to set you free and the only way to access His power is through faith. How do we aquire such faith? Scripture states that faith comes by "hearing" the Word of God.

The Bible offers much instruction on what to do in situations like these. However, to possess real faith in God's word requires that we actually believe God's word and the only why to express our belief in God's word is to obey God's word. In other words, without obedience your faith is a dead faith or as the Apostle James puts it "without works, faith is dead".

Keep in mind that there are no easy buttons to push and that if you truly desire to be free, it will take time and persistanse. You may even stumble and fall on more than a couple of occasions however, only if you refuse to give up will you be free one day. Here's what you should do

A. First, you need to consecrate yourself. In other words, you need to separate yourself from those things that tempt you. If there are things on your computer or on TV that tempts you to sin then you need to stop using the computer and / or watching TV. If for some reason this is an impossibility then you need to install some sort of filters. If there are people or places that tempt then you need to do your very best to stay away from them. Consecration is ESSENTIAL!

B. Find a version of the Bible that you find easy to understand and that seems to speak to your heart on an intimate level. (I prefer the Amplified version :)) and set aside time every day to read it, a couple times a day if possible. Especially during your lunch break at work or school. Nothing helps you through a hard day like reading God's word. Begin in the New Testament and stay there until you get a firm grasp of what each of the authors have to say (the book of Revelation is optional for you are attempting to do although I do recommend reading the 1st three chapters)

C. Spend more time with fellow believers who are passionate about God and His word. Avoid those who are argumentative and / or those who are critical of others. You need people who are passionate about God, about loving / helping others and who will want what is best for you and are willing to help you without judging you. Go to church regularly and talk to trusted leader about your situation who may be willing to help.

D. Spend time everyday in prayer and in worship. It is critical that you learn to value intimate time spent with God and feel the love and the peace that can only come when we spend time in His presence. I promise you, you can experience the presence and peace of God for yourself! There is nothing in this world quite like it. The more you spend time there, the more you desire to spend time there. :)

E. Your victory over sin relies on your willingness to trust God and turn to Him in your moment of weakness (temptation). Please read the following verses:

2 Peter 1:2-10

2 May grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in [the full, personal, precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

4 By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape [by flight] from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

5 For this very reason, adding your diligence [to the divine promises], employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in [exercising] virtue [develop] knowledge (intelligence),

6 And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control, and in [exercising] self-control [develop] steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in [exercising] steadfastness [develop] godliness (piety),

7 And in [exercising] godliness [develop] brotherly affection, and in [exercising] brotherly affection [develop] Christian love.

8 For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep [you] from being idle or unfruitful unto the ]full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

9 For whoever lacks these qualities is blind, [spiritually] shortsighted, seeing only what is near to him, and has become oblivious [to the fact] that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.

1st Corinthians 10:13

For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

2 Corinthians 12:9

But He (God) said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!

Philippians 4: 6-9

6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.

7 And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

9 Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.

Galatians 5:16

But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).

As I stated in the very beginning of this post, you will never be set free until you learn to value God more than you value the desires of this world. The only way to value God more is to understand who and what He is, your identity as a child of God and what He's done for you and, finally, believe that His word is true and that you can have what God promises His Children and be the person He has create you to be! He has already given you everything you need to overcome this however, you must first learn how to use it. :)

Have you thought this, God does not want you to quit committing adultery? or any sin for that matter?

I know you are probably thinking get away from me of course God wants me to quit conmiting any and all acts of sin.

I tell you the truth no one can quit, not completely, the Jews could not, I cannot, no one here cannot. NOT IN THE ENERGY OF ONE'S OWN FLESH THAT IS EVER!!! and as long as you try you will just wax worse and worse at it.
I know been there done that, and got worse and worse at it.

Then I discovered that God does not want me to stop rather he wants me to start. You say start what? The New life in him where you are so focused on him and what he has done for you so that you have not got time for that old life anylonger You see if I am too busy loving my wife, where is the time to commit adultery, if I am too busy workiing where is the time to steal ,and thus if I am too busy with this new life where is the time to sin in fact as long as you are focused in and of the spirit of god you won't sin.
But I will also tell you this truth as you grow in grace and this problem falls away, there will be pride and boasting coming from your flesh that you got it all togethrer, when this happens there will be a messenger from Satan to buffet you as did Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:7 onward, but read it from 12 on to the end and see your need for God for the flesh likes to be without God having its own righteousness through obeying the law, that Paul counted as garbage trying to obey it counted it dung, sothat he would win Christ for righteousness comes by faith, and there is a righteousness by the law but that only puffs one up, this why we are to die to our flesh and be alive in the spirit of God.
Anyway brother grow in grace seek from God know you are forgiven for any past sin is forgiven period and it is past before you can get in a prayer position. So go to God in this and say thank you that you need God and trust God through the Holy Ghost to show you this truth that I spoke of the mystery that teaches you say no to the unrighteousness you are committing.
You will be set free from this bondage, by God, do you believe this, God is teaching you and me to get self out of the way and thus we do not sin

Loveyou in Christ

Amen to what Crossfire wrote!!
Get stuck in the word of God and all what Crossfire wrote and fill yourself with godly thoughts.
The more you feed the spirit the more the flesh will die
When you get rid of that sin you will feel a freedom in your soul.
I pray that God will empower you to walk the Godly path and may He bless you mightily.

It is the work of satan in you. Don't be discouraged when you fall into sin. memorize this verse, 1John1:8-10. Confess your sins to God IMMEDIATELY. Surrender yourself to God, ask God to take charge of your life. We need to completely surrender ourself to our Lord in order for Him to work in us.

yeah, get rid of the computer!

an idol is anything you are not willing to give up for Christ.

Are you married? If you are then the first step is to tell your spouse that you are having problems with porn, get the computer out of your bedroom, and put it into a well visible area, like the kitchen or living room or front from, never in a secluded area. Also have your spouse or anyone add parental controls on your computer. Also you can agree to only get on the computer when your spouse in home to monitor you. Or you can have your spouse put a password on the computer so you can't get on it at all until she is home with you. If all this fails get rid of the computer, your soul is worth it. Why jeopardize your relationship with God over your relationship with porn? Why take the chance? Get rid of the computer if you are unable to stop looking at porn. That is something you can do. or you make excuses why you can't get rid of the computer and continue to look at porn and in the end suffer the consequences of the choices you freely made. But i have told you the solution to your problem, get rid of the computer.

Which is better, pleasing God or pleasing self, that is the question isn't it?

Another Me, if you keep on looking at porn, you won't be able to put Jesus Christ as the only focus of your life and won't be able to have a better relationship with Him. So I would suggest that you download some free software from the XXXChurch. Just google x3watch free version or something like that and download the free version. Then another male or whoever you want can be your accountability partner and keep you in check. Also ask God to help you think pure thoughts and also listen to clean, positive, and encouraging music that can help as well. Another thing, if you get into the habit of reading your Bible everyday that will greatly help too. I have a tip too: If you start to want to look at porn, get angry at the flesh that wants you to do it, rebuke it in the name of Jesus, and ask God to help you as well as other Christians. God bless.

I John1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Only when we walk in the light as Jesus walked in the light is one cleansed from their sins. Would Jesus look at porn? Judge ye.

If you were looking at porn doing what you do when you look at porn and Jesus walked in, would you invite Him to look at it too or be ashamed? judge ye.

If you are married, to look upon another woman who is not your spouse to lust after them, you commit adultery, Tell me will an adulterer enter into the Kingdom of Heaven? Not according to Scriptures they will not. Judge ye.

i think looking a porn is NOT a sin but rather an sexual urge that needs to be put in proper perspective. We know very well that God created mankind. God also made us to have sexual urge of the opposite sex when we reach puberty. So I personally thinks that watching porn to improve on sexual relationship in marriage and for singles who reached puberty age to masturbate is fine BUT has its limits, not to over do it because anything that over-do, would harm us.BUT if we were to watch it and rape someone then i think it is NOT FINE. In this case, you should stop watching since watching it will make you fall into SIN (rape).

What iam saying is that we should not be addicted to porn while looking at it, treat it like normal. If there is addiction, it would mean that we've loose control then we should stop watching them. Here this is my personal views ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT AS GOD'S TRUTH. I MIGHT BE WRONG AND IF THIS CASE I APOLOGISE AND SEEK GOD'S FORGIVENESS.

I'd say he stop it completely and get rid of the computer if possible. He should strive to avoid Satan's snares. It starts with one glimpse of porn then escalates to being an addiction, which leads to immoral acts, infidelity, or broken marriages.
This man is under the bondage of pornography, I wouldn't advice that he continues looking at porn and treating it like normal. We shouldn't expose our minds with such if not, we would be opening the door for Satan and when he gets in he will be the driver, not the passenger. He loves to capture the unguarded mind.
The OP should ask God to give him victory over this bondage. Fill your mind with godly things, read the bible, be prayerful (you can also pray with other believers), resist the devil when he tries to remind you of your old habits, tell him that Jesus Christ has broken this yoke of sin and you cannot become enslaved to it again.

Dont listen to the lies .like this is to big of a sin or that God will give up and not forgive me since i keep doing it or if you do sin again then you are not trying to be right with God this kind of thinking is from the devil. As soon as you hear these lies and many more say that God love me then confees your sin and keep praying for strenth.Dont feel alone either there are so many christians that have this sin men and woman if not this one another. This is why Jesus had to die .ill be praying for you to have strength.I hope this helps a bit

Try to always remember that for all eternity you'll be a non-sexual being, so you might as well get used to it, and then you'll eventually prefer from the heart that to live a non-sexual existance. When you see both men or women in this time, practice assuming positively about their future by thinking or saying "my sister who I will gladly die for. My brother who I will gladly die for."

King James Version John 15:13 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
King James Version John 15:14 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

I keep you in my prayers, and try your best to think of women as sisters or children of God.
