So wasn't there an advice colum here somewhere? Oh well...I'll just post here.

Does the Bible say anything about fiction writing? I ask because I have written over a hundred pages for a story and I don't know if it is God-honoring. What makes a story God-honoring?

Would anyone be willing to read my stories and figure out if they are God-honoring or bits and pieces. You can let me know how many words or pages you would be willing to read and I can send them over.

It's really hard because I have fallen in love with my characters and their complexity. I have one character that starts out like a prince charming and then turns into a mass murderer because he is so wracked with guilt over the death of his brother and dad which wasn't even his complete fault.

Also my stories help me work through some stuff that happened in my past so yeah...

Thoughts?

This can be a good thing. "Fictional" story telling is one method I give my clients for helping both them and me.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I use to write fiction in High School. I've had an idea for a story but never make time to write it haha.

There is nothing wrong with writing fiction. This is another case of you getting bogged down in legalism.

Write that book. My suggestion is not to use swearing or sex to gain attention. Make it God honoring and you will be good!

I write many fiction stories. Writing is about creativity and is a GOD given art form. It is a creative process and sometimes a way in which you can release frustration and anger through the characters. Many authors whom write fiction are Christians and at times I am sure that add a subject manner into the story that they do not believe in or disgusts them, however it is something that the story needs to capture a reader or tie things together. Allow your creativity to flow and help you heal from the past, do not allow it to consume you are steer you away from God. Remember to thank God for the creativity and to continue to guide you through the story where you are not losing a sense of yourself. And I am always happy to read.

Christ used fiction, he called them parables!! As long as you have a christian world view, you should be ok. It doesn't even have to be about God to be God-honoring, if you make the evil evil and don't try to explain it away, and make the good good, and don't try to blur the lines, that is a huge step toward making a God-honoring book.

The parables are not fiction.

Fiction means made up and not factual.

However Jesus parables were teachings to describe the actual judgment and entering the kingdom of heaven.

He taught in such a way so that only those who are spiritual minded could understand.

Nothing wrong with fiction writings at all.

Only a legalistic approach would add extra do's and don'ts not mentioned in the Word of God.

That is one of the things Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for doing, adding extra stipulations.

I have written over 100 pages and it's weird...it's weird because I do feel a need to get my work checked out and I don't know why...ok actually I do know why but I don't really wanna talk about it on here. If I know you really REALLY well and you PM me about it MAYBE I will explain it to you but it's bit more complex than just a story...and yeah....

Um, well, they were illustrations, but it didn't really happen. There wasn't really a man who went out to sow literal seed. There wasn't a literal man who made a literal vineyard. They are things that could happen in real life, but didn't.

Same with fiction, what happens in fiction could happen in real life, but doesn't.

No Jesus parables are examples of what does happen in real life.

Just because it does pinpoint a specific person they still are real life teachings for entering The kingdom of heaven.

The shower and the seed is about how people receive the Truth in Christ to receive eternal life.

Only one group receives it in right way that leads to eternal life through Christ, and that is those who receive it and continue to follow what He said.

Even though some fiction stories can become reality, all of Jesus parables do apply to reality.

People would never read fiction if it didn't apply to reality. I guess the discrepancy is in the definition of "fiction", not the definition of parables.
