How should I view this with my family?

Take time off and go to the dentist.

By the way I think you need to factor in time off anyway generally just to have
holidays and breaks, otherwise you will get ill then end up having no job and
using your savings to get better.

Oh and I wasn’t sure if you realised but your profile says you are not married.

One other thing, over here in the UK, we have legislation called the
Working Time Directive, it limits how many hours per week people can
work, So they don’t get flogged to death!

There are jobs where there are exceptions for practical and security reasons.

And people can opt out of it, but at least it makes people and employers think
twice about the hours they do.

In some jobs it’s illegal to opt out of it, where working excessive may put
people at risk. Driving jobs for example.

I work for the civil service. It’s not one of the opt out categories of work. But
the government will not allow its employees to work excessive hours, even if
they want to.
