Praying that the Lord direct you in the things that He'd have you do in your church, even if that is just praying. Praying for those around you is powerful and can bring about change. Let the Lord do the work. I pray the Lord bless your hearts desire to help.

I think one of the biggest ways to influence others is to simply walk with the Lord and love those around you. In doing this, you are being a witness unto the Lord and people are naturally drawn to that.
