I just wanted to brag a bit about my hubby. He's a great guy, and I am SO blessed to have him as my life partner.

Hubby is a REDEEMED alcoholic -- God took the bottle out of his hand over 26 years ago. I bring this up because last week, we had a complete stranger stop by our commercial building (which we are currently remodeling for our business) and lend us a hand when we were in a precarious situation. It was nice that he helped, but we both could smell the alcohol on him, and it was only 11:30 in the morning! We gave him some money for his help, but the next day, he came back and asked for more money. He was unemployed, etc. I wasn't there at this point, but my hubby spoke with him and asked him if he was a "drunk." The guy initially denied it, but finally admitted that he was an alcoholic, but just couldn't stop. Hubby tried to give him some advice, didn't give him any more money, but also said that if he ever just wanted to talk, to stop by (as long as he was sober at the time!). That evening, I ran into the guy while shopping at our local market, and he was buying some beer. He gave me a look like he knew he was busted! But I didn't say anything other than the normal niceties.

Fast forward to today -- hubby asked if I had seen the guy around town at all (we live in a VERY small town), and I said I hadn't. Hubby mused that he probably scared him away, that he didn't want to face the truth of his addiction. Well, this afternoon, the guy shows up at our building and asked to talk to Hubby. Hubby dropped everything and stepped outside to talk with the guy. They talked for about 20-25 minutes. I made myself scarce so they had some privacy, but Hubby reported that it was a good talk and the guy said he will probably stop back by some more if that was okay with us. So cool.

But I'm also proud of Hubby because of the fantastic work he's performing on this cool old building we bought. His plans and vision for the building are so wonderful. And I love that his focus is on how we can use this building to improve our tiny community. Yes, we needed the space for our business, but it's become so much more than that. It's truly going to be a space for the entire community, and Hubby is fully embracing that vision.

In short, I am married to a wonderful, godly man. He is generous, kind, humble -- he's just great! And I just wanted to honor him and honor God by bragging on him a bit!

Please share any stories you have about your wonderful spouse!

Awww, how wonderful your husband had empathy for that man. I pray the man's eyes open to Jesus Christ and that he find new life!

Wow that's so great! My Brother, Step Dad and Brother in law are recovered alcoholics. Even after all the year's of sobriety they go to their meeting's.

I'm proud of my Husband because he has a big heart. We grow a garden every year, he makes sure to share the abundance.

I LOVE hearing stuff like this. So many stories of husbands (and wives) disappointing each other, this stuff just warms my heart.
Praise God !!

Thank you for sharing this.

just because your husband is a REEDEEMED alcoholic, and we assume that he had to give it up completely
because of all of the damage it did to your family, etc.

we must not be to quick to judge others just upon smelling their breath or how they share their feelings about
themselves at the moment, we all have our own sordid histories - most of our real histories are mysteries
to others - most truly 'sick' alcoholics' would never-ever give a darn about anything, much less helping
a totally un-known couple help to better their community by offering to help restore an old store in a
tiny, old community...

sounds almost to good to be true...

your focus should be on the wonderful, godly, generous, kind, humble man, who offered and gave
himself to your obviously wonderful addition to your community...

I'm not sure what your point is. You sound rather cynical, but perhaps I'm just reading this incorrectly?

Your husband is doing it right, Santuzza... He has walked the walk, and now he's reaching out to others..

I was especially impressed by your description of how your hubby showed love and compassion, instead of anger...

Many, many times the most unforgiving and least understanding of those trying to help others are the ones who have been through it themselves. It's almost like an "I did it, you MUST do it too" kind of attitude. It sounds like your husband is not that way..

Blessings to both of you....
