One very important thing I have learned in parenting and from my childhood: Just because your child has a different style/personality/likes/dislikes than you, doesn't make it wrong.
Abbie was holding my hand at a farm tour yesterday, and she said, "Mommy, why is it that when you're not here, EVERYONE tries to boss me around?"
Abbie has, how shall I call it, an "exploratory personality". She has big emotions, a short fuse, a desire to push the limits and experiment with her surroundings in every waking moment. She likes life messy. There is not an introverted cell in her body. She is the embodiment of energy.
Sometimes this is viewed by others as a negative trait; one that needs to be boxed in and surpressed. I see it as high intelligence. Instead of boxing it in, I love finding ways to keep her little mind busy! Only non-comformers make big changes in the world. If we're all in the same box, nothing will ever happen.
