The Bible tells a spouse not to depart. There is no provision I know of in the Bible for legal separation. However, the higher principle is loving neighbor as self. It wouldn't be loving a spouse to enable a spouse to commit murder of oneself. It wouldn't be loving the spouse to be a punching bag either.
