I'm sorry to hear of your friend and the deaths in his family. I don't mean to diminish their pain or sorrow or brush off the deaths from Covid but there are a LOT of things in this world that cause death.
For example, there is a bacteria that dogs pass to humans (Mcr-1) that are antibiotic resistant. It was first reported in, of all places, China. It is also caused by using antibiotics on farm animals too much.
"The use of antibiotics in farming is believed to be fueling a “growing crisis of antimicrobial resistance” that is estimated to kill 700,000 people a year globally - and that “is forecast to kill ten million a year by 2050 if left unchecked”, says The Telegraph."

700,000 people a YEAR are dying from antibiotic resistance! Why isn't this considered a "pandemic"?
"Every year 1.35 MILLION people die on roadways around the world"

And yet we haven't banned cars to "protect" people.
Why? Why is Covid considered so dangerous but something that kills 700,000 people every year isn't?
