I would recommend that patience and Understanding be granted to your child. Why? Because their Sinful Nature has yet to be removed.
Colossians 2:11, 13 NLT - "When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision--the cutting away of your sinful nature. ... 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins."
In Romans chapter 7, Paul talks about this life . . . life [before] the Sin Nature is cut away, which is why he takes only partial responsibility for his sins.
Romans 7:18 NLT - "And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't."
Colossians was written [after] Romans, thus we are able to conclusively determine that Paul was referring to his "Old Man" (in Romans) that had yet been relieved of the Curse of the Lord. This explains the two passages below, also in Romans chapter 7:
Romans 7:17, 20 NLT - 17 "So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. ... 20 But if I do what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it."
And this is how it is for all who have yet to have the Curse of the Lord dealt with by Christ. Our hearts must be Purified and lifted of the Curse of the Lord. Until this happens, there is no hope.
A change of heart, produced by the Spirit, must be completed.
Romans 2:29 NLT - "No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by God's Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people."
And this change of heart is now available to even the Gentiles . . . it is the same Work as was performed in the Old Testament for our Patriarchs. Is there any other way that David could have written about how thankful he was for his Salvation? And how else could Abraham have been Blameless before God? How could our Patriarchs be Pure [before] Christ had died?
Deuteronomy 30:6 KJV - "And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live."
Isn't it sad that our pastors are not teaching us these things? The answers are in the Bible, but we cannot wait for our pastors and teachers to show them to us . . . it doesn't seem that they want us to be aware of them, so we must discover the Truth on our own. I am very sorry.
