Everyone struggles with the need to impress people at some level. And much of the pressure, fear and stress we experience in our lives is caused by our need to impress others.

Can you imagine how free we would be if we just lived for God and didn't worry about what others think about us? How wonderful would it be to know that you don't have anything to prove and you're...
satisfied being who God created you to be!

We need to know who we are in Christ, what we can do and what we can't. (See Colossians 3:17) We need to be humble about what we can do, and we need to accept and have peace about the things we can't do. Too many people are proud of what they can do and bothered by what they can't do.

I've discovered that there's real freedom in being able to say, "I can't do that. It's not my gift or calling from God. I don't believe God is leading me to do that."

When we have this attitude, we're not comparing ourselves or competing with others. And we're not worried about living by the world's standard, like having to wear what the fashion magazines say is "in" or having the "right" job or level of income to make us "important."

Jesus knew who He was, where He came from and where He was going. Because He did, He could take off His garment, put on a servant's towel, and wash the disciples' feet. (See John 13:4-5.)

Remember to always watch for what God is trying to teach you. Every situation is allowed by God and if you are doing anything good and perfect it is God who actually did it, not you or me. He that is joined to the Lord is one Spirit. Everyone shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be seasoned with salt. To be more like Jesus will eventually lead to the choice of willfully being motivated by the spiritual senses, and not being under the power of the temporary flesh senses. Remember that a day with the Lord is as a thousand years, which means that most of us are not even an hour old. 83.33333333 years old makes you one hour old in the spirit. We're just babes, and the blame goes to the giver of the poisoned lollypop, which many don't want to let go of freely. The more you suffer for Jesus the greater your eternal reward, and God does it through you, and part of you is a holy spirit by measure and which has a beginning.
I pray for you.

At age 35, I knew it in my head too. Wait until you reach retirement age, and can really DO it.

yes, Amen! Im looking at myself, I didnt realize I was living that way until I gave in to Jesus, and recognized that he fullfilled the Law, and i could never ever even come close to fullfilling the Law ever! We struggle with getting approval but I know those who submitt to christ, he'll renew our minds daily, and change our hearts Amen!

very wise and insighful. I admit a couple of times i had lust and i am struggling with temptation the most but god has protected me from most sufferings spiritually. Really the only suffering i have spiritually is the desire to be one with jesus. I often have to hold back this desire as it is very strong and in my weakness it takes overand i cry to god begging him to let me have the relationship with him i want. truethat most of my life has been nothing but sever pain but i always and even now see it as nothing because there are others who are so much worse off. physicle pain i can handle no matter the level because i know it will pass but spiritual pain and emotional pain are so much worse I am not strong enough to handle those for very long. Like to be haunted by spirits, that i would not be strong enough for.

"Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, A people in whose heart is My law; Do not fear the reproach of man, Nor be dismayed at their revilings." (Isaiah 51:7)

"I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of man who dies And of the son of man who is made like grass"
(Isaiah 51:12)

That's basically what we're talking about, right? The fear of man. I am still in the process of being shed of that, I'm sorry to say. But it does crop up, from time to time. And each time, God is stronger than it is. ♥
Nice points, everyone, and great post, Becky! :)

gratefully,
