Alright, gonna check this out at home. Quick question. Do I have to cut on 250-350Hz for ALL instrument tracks and boost vocals?
Here's one of the best resources on the Internet to learn mixing tips. It's producer/mixer Fab Dupont's website:

puremix.net

He has several free tutorials, but I highly recommend buying the ones for EQ, Compression, and Reverb, they're the most important.

Thank you! I'll check these out. I checked your other resources too. Trying to finish my arrangement now, I did the mixing part, to study it. I'll probably try and re-mix my old recordings for more practice too. Volunteering at church to help with the sound mixing team also helps a lot. Today, there were a couple of mixers who taught us some basics on analog mixing. Although, that was for live performance but it was still helpful.

Great. That's a good opportunity at your Church with those sound mixers, most of the techniques used for analog are also good for digital. The UAD digital plugins, which are emulations of old analog gear, use the same techniques done with the old analog units.

Hey just seen this! Which DAW are you getting? I just started with music theory too. Well, I try to study that but I think I'll be focusing more on contemporary production in the future. Just getting started with all this stuff. Are you into arranging too? It'd be cool to collaborate sometimes and we can learn from each other :). DP has some really good advise and tips and helpful resources. :)
hey I just saw this too. Music theory in my opinion has to be accompanied with trial and error of different piano notes and cords etc. Everybody I talk to say I need an apple daw, but I think that one can get better sound cards on a PC. Hey you can send me a friends request to me if you want.

I sent ya friend request. It's true there's a lot you can do with PC. As I am more into songwriting and arranging, I find the Logic the more beneficial option for me though. How's your music path going? Have you started studying music theory?

Yeah I've been studying it off and for about 10 months. I was also thinking about getting sheet music of songs I like and just rearranging the notes around and see what happens using the same tempo etc.

Yeah you might be right about Logic because everyone I've talked to pretty much say the same thing

Great start! I'm studying my DAW and practicing mixing and arrangement with my own covers. I'm just waiting for when the holidays are over so I can start with music theory (piano lesson), and I'm thinking of getting vocal coaching as well, at least once a week. There's one not too far from where I live.

I might get piano lessons as well now that you mentioned it. I really want to take tennis lessons as well , but that's a different thread.

Lol! Yes, I think piano lessons are good if you're learning music theory. I play keys by ear, I've played for almost 10 years, although, not consistently. But my knowledge in music theory is absolutely 0. Lol. Tennis, however, yes, an entirely different thread. I do prefer biking than any other outdoor sport. lol.

I got this little book called the seven harmonies of music by Paul William Bennett that helps me a lot. It talks about how like five goes back to one and many other examples and how 2 can be substituted by 4 and the like. Also I might have to start biking if I can't find a tennis partner.

I just take what I need from the book and ignore the mumbo jumbo what ever those words mean. Lol

Oh dear. I hate musical algorithm. I started listening to this audiobook from audible called "Bach and The High Baroque". It's 25 hours long. The narrator is a music professor and he's really fun to listen to. The lesson itself (by the Great Courses) isn't only about Bach and Baroque era and music, but has musical algorithms too (Pythagorean Tuning, darn boring) and a lot of music theory and history. I still have like 18 hours left. That and this book about music business and production by Loren Weisman. It's really helpful and practical. It's more like digital production of contemporary music. Which I'm starting to focus more on. I just keep the music theory and history in preparation for attending music school. Also, I got the Bach audiobook for free (trial version of audible, 1 book free :p). And yes, biking is really good. I recently bought a foldable bike that I can carry to train stations.

I used to think the same thing, but after I read my book, well some of it, I played some of what it said on the piano and I was so surprised on how much of what I read made sence.

I've seen sound cloud before but don't have it. Also I just got a Casio keyboard not too long ago so I'm not to good yet. They have some good songs on Godsdj.com I'm not sure if you have heard of it before. I've mainly just studying my music theory books lately.
