I don't see a problem referring to it as 'Christian' rap as long as the songs stay true to God, HIS character, and HIS word.
Me personally, I like to listen to Lacrae.

There's a few christian hiphop artists I like, but these guys are the standouts for me. These guys are artists that stand out to me regardless of genre.

Man, that's one of the best rap songs i've heard in a while. I know there are better rappers, but the whole dance club/autotune sound is so obnoxious that even some of the best Christian rappers sound intolerable due to all the autotune and effects in their music. Nice to hear something stripped down to beats and rhymes again.

You know I kinda enjoy some of the Christian rap stuff...but when they start grabbing their private parts and stuff on their vids, it takes away from any real testimony they are trying to have in my opinion...

Oh, yeah, one rapper said it, so it must be true. Because rappers would never say sensationalistic statements to get attention.

I admit to being "out of the loop" when it comes to music, I had never heard of christian rap before. I'm guessing it's the lyrics that are important here instead of the music/beat. Am I close?

For me personally, the lyrics have to have substance. It sounds better to me, regardless of the innate sounds, if the lyrics have some meaning to them. Even if a song sounds good initially, if the lyrics are dull or lifeless, I lose interest fast. Same is true for any genre of music I'm listening to, not just rap.

I know some people that don't pay attention to lyrics though and just like music for the sound, and I never really could understand this. Even if I'm listening to trance or electronica with no lyrics, I find I like a song at first but then get really bored of it quickly and move on. This isn't as true for me when it comes to music with meaty lyrics.

That's understandable, the lyrics are telling a story. Back when I used to listen to music, the lyrics were the most important aspect of any song.

yes, the content of the lyrics is what separates this from the worldly music of the same genre.

there is, also, scriptural support for making music that is of high quality, not just that the lyrics present and/or agree with the gospel:

Sing unto him a new song;
play skilfully with a loud noise.

(Psalm 33:3)

for me personally, i never liked this style of music at all until some Christians i met online made me listen to some. i always said, i would like rap if there were no lyrics -- now the lyrics are the part that i really like best, that moves me, but i also appreciate the artistry of the 'beat' too.

forthangel, thanks for posting - i am really loving this.
totally agree with you about dropping music with lyrics that have no truth in them, too. i just have nothing in common with it anymore.

Holy carp Post... that song is it. I must download. I normally hate most white Christian rappers because they always did the whole goofy suburban thing. This guy is tight though. And those beats, they dropped and i got excited.
But... the title reminded me of this from about 10 years ago
