I heard this song yesterday for the first time in 15 years- it was the first Christian song that I heard that was outside of church praise music/hymns. I'm sure you all remember this one:

Arwen, I can tell you when I first found Christian music and where. In 1987, I was 11 and in an adolescent psych ward at Duke University Hospital. They let us have little battery powered radios. It was November and I found WRTP in Durham, NC. I can't tell you how much Christian music has played in my life since then. Now I'm 36 and still listen to the old school.

I remember this song. Never a Jars of Clay fan, but i did enjoy this song a lot.

Oh yeah, Arwen, this may be a good thread to see if you've heard of this artist.. Shes a Christian singer, and her name is Eowyn... and yes, its her real birth name, not a stage name. haha..

The first Christian song I fell in love with was a David Crowder song. It was great to discover that awesome Christian music was out there and I haven't looked back since from doing so.

Jars of Clay, ahhh yes...I do remember them. Not my cup of tea really. Didn't they semi-sorta-almost break into the secular market with a hit song at one point?

They even did an album with old hymns and one new one that they did called Redemption Songs or something like that. God bless. I like Jars of Clay but just because some people don't like their band or music does not make them hater, just many tend to be concerned when they veer into the secular market. I tend to wonder what has happened but I know that God knows their heart. God bless.

Yep. It was the song Arwen posted, too haha. Had a good amount of MTV airtime.

Zao was just kidding about us being haters. A few of us talk regularly in another forum, so he's just joking with friends.

I love Jars of Clay's first three albums. I haven't bothered with the others, I don't know if they're any good. Now, I tend to go for something heavier or a bit more eclectic.

This was my first taste of Christian music other than the praise and worship style or ballad/pop:

All the way from 1996 - Seraph's Coal (Punk rock?)
Enjoy.

This old school P.O.D. song "Selah" from 1996 is also pretty swish. Strangely enough I only really got into music upon leaving high school (end of 2001).

That Seraphs Coal link didn't work, i had to do a search. I'd label them pop punk. Which was big back then.

Yeah, the album that Selah came off of, Brown, was an awesome album. Or even their first release Snuff The Punk was good. Heavier stuff.

I didn't hear anything heavy. I just heard Green Day type music. And i heard a song off of that album and i thought pop punk.
Reminded me a lot of this, which is pure pop punk..

Well, they're not heavy but I mean heavy for so-called Pop music.

I like Tintin better than Ugly...Ugly failed to ever bring Selah up in a thread which is quite possibly the best christian rap-rock song the world has ever seen.
